My computer has not processed any LIGO data since last Friday 2-24-06. I have gotten the same messages since last weekend. The messages are:

3/1/2006 7:40:31 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.13 for windows_intelx86
3/1/2006 7:40:31 AM||libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3
3/1/2006 7:40:31 AM||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC
3/1/2006 7:40:34 AM||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz
3/1/2006 7:40:34 AM||Memory: 503.37 MB physical, 1.20 GB virtual
3/1/2006 7:40:34 AM||Disk: 70.80 GB total, 60.93 GB free
3/1/2006 7:40:34 AM|Einstein@Home|Computer ID: 416209; location: home; project prefs: default
3/1/2006 7:40:34 AM||General prefs: from Einstein@Home (last modified 2005-09-18 20:47:25)
3/1/2006 7:40:34 AM||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults
3/1/2006 7:40:35 AM||Remote control not allowed; using loopback address

I have no clue about what to do. Nothing significant has changed on this end except that I downloaded a bunch of files on Sunday, approximately 10-15 megabytes.

What could be causing this problem?

Message: Remote control not allowed

The message “Remote control not allowed isn’t a problem. With the BOINC manager you can remote control BOINC installations on other computers. This message only tells you that BOINC on your computer isn’t set up to be controlled from an other computer.

Are this all the messages on the messages tab?

All the messages that I am receiving are there. I used the copy all messages button on BOINC. There must be something preventing the download of more data...

Ziran I'm back... Same set

Ziran I'm back... Same set of messages again, I'm doing the same thing I've always done. After the screen saver woke up (about 9 days ago) and began downloading and uploading again, it continued to do so through two or three complete data sets with my computer's credit counter going up accordingly. Then as I was getting close to the end of a data set I had to shut the screen saver down before it finished at school (where there is a T1 line) and I resumed the computing at home where I still just have dial-up. The messages I'm currently getting are shown below:
3/8/2006 8:41:05 PM||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.13 for windows_intelx86
3/8/2006 8:41:05 PM||libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3
3/8/2006 8:41:05 PM||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC
3/8/2006 8:41:06 PM||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz
3/8/2006 8:41:06 PM||Memory: 503.37 MB physical, 1.20 GB virtual
3/8/2006 8:41:06 PM||Disk: 70.80 GB total, 60.92 GB free
3/8/2006 8:41:06 PM|Einstein@Home|Computer ID: 416209; location: home; project prefs: default
3/8/2006 8:41:07 PM||General prefs: from Einstein@Home (last modified 2005-09-18 20:47:25)
3/8/2006 8:41:07 PM||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults
3/8/2006 8:41:08 PM||Remote control not allowed; using loopback address

At first I thought its a dial-up problem but, when I return to school, the same problem expresses itself. I've had the problem now for three days running. It is almost as if the requests for work are being ignored...

Is your computer a

Is your computer a laptop?
The database shows that you got two unfinished results on your computer, downloaded on 2&3mar.. Are they on your worktab?

If you mark the project and pres the update button, are you getting any messages on the message tab?

If the worktab is completely empty, I would suggest resetting the project. If there is anything remaining in the setup from then you were using the old test application, this would at least clear that out.

Ziran, thank you. I found

Ziran, thank you. I found the two work data sets on the work tab. Then I found the update button on the project tab and pressed it (after marking the project line on that screen). The system then successfully uploaded the completed work and the screen saver is back in business. Thanks again for your help.

Ziran, I forgot the answer

Ziran, I forgot the answer your first question. Yes I do have a laptop. It is the only computer that I use the screen saver with right now.

I think I know what your

I think I know what your problem is. Since your not always connected to the internet then you use the laptop, BOINC will fail to connect to the project to fetch new work, if you don’t happened to be connected at that time. Every time it fails it will wait longer before it retries. If this is the problem, keep an eye on the worktab from time to time and manually update the project if needed. Since your not always connected you may want to increase how much work you have on hand, so you don’t run dry. Log in and click on general preferences. Edit preferences. Locate Connect to network about every. This value determents how much work you keep on hand. The default is 0.1 days. I guess somewhere between 0.5-2 days would be a good setting, depending on how you use your computer. Don’t forget to update to fetch the new settings.

Also consider the setting 'Use network only between the hours of', if that is some predictable period for you. I believe that would invoke downloading and scheduling of work to suit....

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...
