I've got 179 workunits

I've got 179 workunits pending at the moment. I'm sure there are others with a lot more than that. It's never been a problem for me, they get validated sooner or later. :-)

My current pending is 5247.82. It has been as high as 7000+. I look at it like money in the bank. I don't have it in my hand but it's still mine... at least most of it!

G'day warhawk, it's good to catch up ;-)

I was looking at some of the threads above, about the oversized cache problems
and remembered I'm waiting on this user, Anonymous. They have 248 WU's. None have been finished and now they're old ones are being deleted from the list. I think it's the ones that are completed & more than 30 days old.

Hi ya', Mike!

Good to see ya' again!!!

As someone mentioned earlier in the tread, the attrition rate seems to be rather high... Some folks crunching for a week or two and they just dropping out of sight... It's a shame, really, because there are so many folks dedicated to this project and the only real reward they get, other than doing the science, is to see their stats improve...

The attrition rate is high

The attrition rate is high ... 55% of hosts inactive (and increasing) where inactive defined as no credit granted in last 30 days (http://www.boincstats.com/stats/project_graph.php?pr=einstein&view=hosts)

so

the dropout rate is prob 70%+.

No suprise as human behavior like this is pretty predictable ... 90% of the work is done by 10% of the participants, regardless of project.

Note that overall Einstein production has leveled off:

Perhaps this may be due in part the fact that Einstein@home is pure science with little of the SciFi attraction that SETI@home holds...

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed SETI@home Classic tremendously and appreciated the science but the basic concept does tend to target a broader audience...

The "crunchers" that surprise me the most are the ones that download a heap of work, then do nothing! They have the attention span of a puppy, but none of the attraction ;-)

IF you look at the "class"

IF you look at the "class" pages of SETI@Home Classic you see the same type of behavior. A lot of people sign up. Some do zero work, a few more do a little then stop, and then there are the addicts ... :)

I have shown what I am doing to a number of people, and a few are mildly interested, but, there is no dramatic "hook" on any project. If and when a project does have an actual "real world" result AND the participant that did the critical computations is recognized, well, maybe then we will get on Heraldo ...

IBM is doing a corporate thing with installing the UD client (unfortunately) on their corporate machines so this may increase awareness ... to be honest, from what I have seen, none of the DC clients is really ready for "prime time" massive deployment. In part because people refuse to understand the system (single project fanatics) or the system is not easy enough for the novices yet, etc. ...

Also, we need another project that can grab the attention ... Orbit@Home, Tsunami@Home, something that people can REALLY relate to ... and no, TAH is a made up projects ...
