Einstein@Home is twenty years old today!

I want to congratulate all of our Einstein@Home volunteers, developers, and scientists: our project is 20 years old today.  We officially launched Einstein@Home on February 19th 2005, exactly 20 years ago, at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Washington DC.

Since that time, almost half a million people have contributed computing power to Einstein@Home. Einstein@Home carries out the most sensitive searches for continuous gravitational waves, and continues to set the tightest and most stringent limits on this yet-to-be-discovered population.  We have discovered more than 90 new radio and gamma ray pulsars, including a number of extreme and exotic examples.  The project has resulted in 38 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, and has also played a role in a dozen PhD theses.

A big thank you to everyone involved!

Bruce Allen

Director, Einstein@Home

The AEI press release contains a bit more information on the history of E@H. And this thread has some more personal stories.

Thank you so much for supporting and sticking with us for so long and making it a real success story!

Thank you, and congratulations for sticking with our project for two decades!

Please, could you take a photo of yourself with your certificate, post it on the web somewhere, and stick a link here?  I'd like to see that.

Dear Bernd, thank you, we never could have made it here without you.

(Everyone, for the record, as well as being the main person who keeps it all working, Bernd is the second volunteer in our database!)

WoW!!

Also just 2 months till my 20 year anniversary. I remember it being the first project offered aside from SETI@Home.

Think I wanted to help help a new project and you've done some quite interesting and amazing things in that time. Well done.

Happy birthday to all!! Oh to

Happy birthday to all!! Oh to be 20 again!! :)

Thank you Bruce for all your hard work. It's much appreciated.

My uncle in law, Doug Lean from Australia was one of the few who helped find a new pulsar. He's the reason I got into Einstein@Home.

I'm always trying to promote our fantastic team BOINC@Australia. These are people I've known online for 13 years crunching away at Einstein@Home but yet none of us have ever met. In fact when my sister had breast cancer, people in my team from Australia and abroad (shout out Dataman!) donated to her Gofund Me page in her time of need.

The generosity of this ... BOINC bond (I guess you could call it) was amazing! A fine example of humanity

Well run projects like Einstein@Home have been a real champion of what it takes to be a great BOINC project. Recognition, reliability, regular updates.  It just runs.

This hobby comes with it's pitfalls though. Trying to explain to my wife why I need 5 or 8 pc's running at 100% 24/7 absolutely SMASHING our power bill and (from her perspective) we get nothing in return. It's worse than crypto mining!! LOL.

Those arguments have been great over the years :) Electricity is a killer though. :(

BOINC is very niche to people I've tried to explain it to. Some get it, some don't. TBA without the ranking system, I probably would have given up crunching years ago.

So on behalf of myself and all the team at BOINC@AUSTRALIA, happy 20th birthday and thank you.

Crunch on brothers & sisters!

This is my first post here, but I certainly remember joining this project way back in '07. On and off a few years here and there, but always happy to contribute!
Congratulations, once again.

Dear Bruce, lieber

Dear Bruce, lieber Bernd,

since I am with you from the beginning, it is the 20th anniversary for me as well. Back then we did not know in person, luckily that thas changed.

Thank you for 20 years of great science, programming  and project management!

I am proudly looking at the certificate for "my" pulsar discovery while I write this.
