3 of my rigs are currently stuck with the Albert 1 hour+ WU's. I upload once a day to the server. Do the math. Unless I upload twice a day, I get shafted with the quota of sixteen nasty. To overcome this, I have to let each rig run dry, upload my completed WU's, wait for the message "quota of 16....", detach from the project, and then sign on as a new computer. I will receive a new host ID. Then I have to go to my computer and edit my hosts. Why is this necessary?
I wish the Einstein staff and all of you fellow crunchers a great 2006!

Well. I guess this is a workaround. However, I don't think it' the most effective one. You end up creating a lot of havoc on your end.
Have you thought of attaching to another project? That way your CPU cycles never go to waste and you don't have to play games with creating zillons of hosts to get work.
Just ask, and we can give you some good suggestions on other projects to run.

Your suggestion that I sign on to a backup project is well taken. I prefer a "known devil". I have a rig with 27 WU's to deliver in about two hours. Tweakster...I understand your frustration.....they seem in denial that this low frequency (LF) WU will be a problem with fast machines. I don't quite understand their logic ie. they are telling us that these WUs will process in 1/4 of the 'Einstein' WUs' time yet they have only doubled the 'Maximum Daily Quota' (MDQ) setting. Logic would seem to dictate that 32 (up from 8 for 'Einstein') would be more reasonable. As you know this Project will send WUs to groups of hosts with comman data to reduce traffic so once a host gets a fast processing 'Albert' you will have them for a while. It has been mentioned that maybe they are ramping the MDQ up slowly to prevent rogue machines from trashing WUs etc. but it is annoying. The two solutions( additional projects or detaching and rejoining) are both a pain to be sure. IMHO, if these LF WUs are OK and prime time then they should raise the MDQ more quickly....Cheers, Rog.

It's about an hour and half till this machine runs dry. The rig is a Sempy 3100 running at 2.4 ghz. I don't understand why the project can't do the simple math and configue the servers to accept the low Alberts as a 24 quota. Being the holidays, I expect they will get to it sometime after the new years celebrations. Anyway, anyone else had 27 WU's to upload?

Attach to Rosetta, give it a 10% share, when Einstein gets the quota raised, drop Rosetta if you like, or keep it as a backup. Einstein has never _needed_ a backup since I've been attached, but it's always a good idea anyway. And Rosetta (aside from some, hmmm... short WU problems last couple of weeks...) is run as well as Einstein is, unlike some other projects.

I´m not sure whether I´m right here - but I recognized a program called albert_4.37_windows_intelx86.exe on my PC. And the effect of this program is that I get a "no response" message when I try to access my 2. CD ROM Drive. Every thing hangs. I can´t kill this job with the task manager and my CD ROM Drive is dead.
I have to reboot the PC. I don´t think that this is the purpose of the program.
What is albert_4.37_windows_intelx86.exe doing ? How can I force it NOT to kill my CD ROM drive ?

Um... Albert is the new version of the Einstein science application - I don't see any way it could have anything to do with your CD drive...

Followup: The machine with 27 WU's had sixteen in the hole. Blew those away and uploaded. Got the chirpy little notice "deferring communication for 3 hours and whatever". What does Einstein imagine my cruncher is supposed to contribute to the project during this idle time? I had to detach and rejoin. I have 3 other rigs infected with the 1 hour specials from Albert. Monday will be another detach and rejoin day for these boxes. I appreciate all your suggestions, but I don't "sleep around".
