Hallo!

If I’m right, Einstein@Home was started by Bernd Machenschalk from AEI at 15th Oct. 2004.

"So it’s now the 20th anniversary!"

Well done and congratulations Bernd!!! A big firework for this, and we do hope for the next years.

Kind regards and happy crunching

Martin

P.S.: I’m a bit wondering, that no one else did remember for this remarkable event.

Right. I had thought it was

Right. I had thought it was early 2025 but I can't show that. Either way it's a grand achievement!

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

No it was before 2005 because several members of my Team were Moderators at Seti and came here after a dispute between the different moderators there. One moderator suspending a person for using a banned word and then another moderator unsuspending them 10 seconds later became intolerable so we all left there and came here to the already running Einstein.

No, I usually tried to ignore the disputes at seti. :-)

Hello! Mike Hewson

I found the date in a post from Bernd Machenschalk, just below his avatar. And at the first user meeting of E@H in autumn 2008 (?) at AEI in Potsdam/Golm, at the end, Bernd showed us the server, situated in a big room in the cellar, consisting of about 100 normal PCs, they bought from a normal PC seller, in normal racks and separated from the remaining room by plastic foils for reducing admittance of dust. Bernd said, they began with 60 PCs, and when he started E@H, he was the first member. Then other members of the institute followed. And he said, they are planing a bigger computer, which ended up in the ATLAS, some years later, and in Hannover.

There are much more memories on that meeting.

Kind regards and happy crunching

That's a good bit of trivial history!  Thanks for sharing!

I can't say either because once I left Seti I never looked back, to me it was the best of times followed by the worst of times. I first started at Seti before Boinc and was one very happy camper to be asked to help keep the conversations civil, a few of the older moderator's I guess felt unloved because of the way it happened and the two groups, new and old, never really communicated about how to try and fix things so things ended up in a mess. IF that's the "dispute" you are talking about then yes, if not then I don't know because like I said once I left I NEVER looked back. I do know some more of what did or didn't happen regarding the Seti Admins but that's a part of the conversations I only know a little bit about.

Real history is sometimes really trivial. By digging more deeply into the homepage of E@H, we can find some hints, that my tale may be true:

ID-Nr. Name
  2 Bernd Machenschalk
  3 Bruce Allen
18 M. Alessandra Papa

The discussion page was set up on Feb 2Xth 2005.

Kind regards and happy crunching
