Hi,
I have a question, I have the possibility to buy a Itanium2 system (Fujitsu Siemens Celsius 880 2x 1,2Ghz).
Now me question, how good is the system to use with the Boinc Client? How fast is it?

Itanium2

Its fast for native applicatons - programs compiled and optimized for Itanium. But slow for anything else. Doesn't matter for the BOINC client itself, but it does for the science applications that you attach to.

There aren't any native Itanium binaries for Einstein@Home, so you'd have to run the 32 bit version. Which is slow.

Check some results yourself, Itanium 2 hosts are here, here and here.

Thats around two days CPU time per workunit. Faster host is 44 hours each, slower host is nearly 55 hours each.
