Could try a different older or newer driver version?

I will work on walking down the list of drivers I have available.  Driver v3.90 kept generating a "gpu not-found" on my original Nvidia Quardo but it was a much older (gen2 only) card.  So it is possible that even a 3.90 version might work.

====edit===

v4.70 has same errors, gpu not found by bioncmgr.

v3.90 will not install from the gui.  It has some kind of installation error codes.

All the others are for "servers" and I will have to see if they are usable for me.

do the errors happen right after starting MPS? Or when trying to run a task with mps? Does it run without mps?

It runs without MPS.

I will try that next.

Boinc Mgr continues to say "gpu not found" when I try to run the script

Have tried the line with 70%.

Don't know if this helps but if you to the bottom of the page on the left is the drivers that were working for it when it came out and how far up the line of new drivers it's supported. Unfortunately it's Windows only but maybe it will help.

I would return it

I would return it personally. You overpaid a good bit for it anyway. These same GPUs are like $70-$80 shipped on eBay. and considering that you thought you were getting P4000, it’s not the GPU you wanted anyway

I have a couple more tests to make.  So far, a Gtx 1060 6GB seems to be failing on the exact same errors.  After I do that another time I am going to try a gtx 3080 ti.  If that fails, I will back up the SSD and install Ubuntu 20.

If that fails with the rtx 3080 ti I think we can safely accuse the MB and try testing the M4000 on another MB.

Returning the M4000 is still on the table though.

I never made it to the rtx 3080 ti since back grading to Ubuntu 20 got rid of log errors.  And boincmgr not finding the gpu after starting the MPS.

I will download and burn the latest Ubuntu 22 in hopes that the next time I use it I won't screw myself up.

Munching along pretty good on 1x with mps so bumped it to 2x.  Gpu utilization is almost exactly the same.  And it is still using less than 50% the gpu memory.  This might actually run 4x acceptably?

==more edit===

Nah.  Gpu utilization went up to 99-100% with two tasks running on the gpu side.  Oh, well.

==edit redux===

The p4000 has more than twice the floating point performance of the M4000 according to Techpowerup.

And the Titan V has about 3 times the floating point performance of the p4000.

Question for you...do you 'burn' them to a cd, usb stick or ie a 12gn SSD drive?

And 2nd have you ever tried http://versus.com

Here is a question. Since single slot GPU's are not suitable for cheek and jowl installs how are they an advantage over double slot GPU's than can go cheek and jowl?

For what we do here, there is not much of an advantage, if any. If you have a really small case, then they are great. If you water cool, they could be good since there will still take one slot. That being said, there are some water cooling solutions for double slot GPUs that turn them single slot, and that is ideal.
