I almost missed it. About yesterday I passed 1 Billion credits. I feel a bit of celebration mood. Now since normale people have no idea what I'd talk about and would look at me like I lost my waffels this is the right place.
After 17 years on this project.
I started with a Core 2 Duo in 2007. In 2010 my main cruncher arrived, a MacPro 5.10 speced to the max of the time. RAC really started to go up when GPU support arrived back then still with an ATI 5870 getting up to 25k RAC, followed by a GTX 780 and then the AMD 580 which did the most of the work and managed to keep the system at 500k RAC for years. Got 600 million credits on the computer. But being an old macOS I can't do GPU work on it any more so it just does come CPU work while I do file handling tasks on the system. But it's been 14 years of almost 24/7 crunching and it's till running. That thing has history.
I also burned up 2 MacBooks on this project, boy these things are not made for high loads at all.
2021 a HP Z-Book joined and hell yeah that's how to do laptop cooling, this thing is insane, I pause it over summer and the whole winter it can support heating my flat.
Crisis hit in 2022 with high power prices in Europe, and business being dead. For 2 years not allowed to work because of pandemic rules burning up all savings I had to cut down crunching. It really hurt to have the hardware not running.
2023 I finally switched to Windows completely and got myself a new desktop workstation with all AMD hardware, boy that thing packs a punch and has really low power consumption at full load. Idyle Power is quite high thoug, so for the efficiencies sake:
F*k the costs, keep science rocking! 10 Billion is the next goal and if business keeps growing I'll be able to add more machines to get there sooner and hopefully reach the 100 Billion mark somewhen.
