BOINC is always suspended

First is the obvious one - check your preferences. If you have BOINC set to run after 3 min inactivity, and the screensaver set to run after 2 min, then the first minute will always be "suspended". Likewise if you have BOINC set to run between 5PM and 8AM, the screensaver isn't going to override that at noon. If you want it to run _only_ when the screensaver is active (even if it goes to blank), then you need to remove BOINC from the startup items, set "run always", and let the screensaver launch it.

You're running WinXp, so you don't have the Win98 issue of "computer is always busy" from the OS level, but you are still returning results (on the one box that's actually _returning_ results so far) EXTREMELY slowly for that quality of CPU. That makes me believe that the computer is almost _always_ "busy" according to BOINC. Are you running any other kind of background processing? You should have at least 3x the credit you have by now.

Can you try letting it "run always" for a while? Your computers are all fast enough and have enough memory that this really shouldn't be a problem, no matter what else you are doing on them. I would only recommend "run when not busy" for those who see a tangible difference in response when running BOINC. That can happen on something like a P III with 96MB and Win98...

woo thanx for the help yeah i

woo thanx for the help yeah i know i should have lots of credits on this beast but ive been busy gaming and as such i turn it off. So if I take it off startup and let the screen saver launch it, it should work... Ill make sure to try it. Rite now I'm letting run always during the day cuz electricity aint quite free.

I have a question... I noticed it says i have 2 cpu's or somthing like that... is it that i really have 2 cpu's? Because i was under the impression that i had only 1 cpu. Also do you think if i set it to use only 1 cpu it would be less noisier? Because the fan goes on when I run boinc and man i hate hearing the fan on any computer... it disturbes the ambiance of the room.

Last question... on laptops.... it wont overheat or anything like that if i leave it running. Because it is using the cpu a lot (i assume) and ill be screwed if one of my laptops breaks.

Laptop have a rep for running hot, so make sure she is clean on the inside and set up off the table so air can circulate and even turn a fan on her for more cooling, you can use threadmaster if it is windows, to adjust the CPU speed....

May be something here, Boinc addons and plugins

Anthony, Your Intel(R)

Anthony,

Your Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz host has the "graphics bug" - i.e. results ending in Exit status -1073741819 (0xc0000005).

You should check to make sure the driver for your graphics card is up to date. And, you might check into using the Beta Application (see link under More Information on the EAH home page). The Beta Application fixes the "graphics bug". I would also add that it is very stable. I used it for about 3 months with no problems. However, it is probably better to stay with Einstein 4.79 for now, and just not use the screensaver (and "Show graphics" option).

This is because EAH has introduced a new science application that will eventually replace v.4.79. The new application (named Albert) contains the same fixes for the "graphics bug" that are in the Beta app, but its science calculations differ from v4.79. The work units for Albert are also different from v4.79. Currently, EAH is sending out both WU types but will eventually phase out v4.79 WU's. If you stay using Einstein 4.79, you will receive the Albert application automatically. If you change to the Beta app, you will not receive Albert automatically, and you will have to uninstall the Beta when v4.79 is "retired".

You should check your BOINC Manager "Work" tab occasionally. If you see an Einstein unit with "Albert 4.37" listed under the "Application" heading, then you should be able to use the "Show graphics" option. But, if it says Einstein 4.79, you should expect the same problems you are having now.

Hi! I have used BIONC since

Hi! I have used BIONC since yesterday on my laptop at the workplace and on my PC at home. I configured the home and work preferences and i assign them to the appropriate Computer IDs.
I configured the BOINC to run as a service, and in the work profile the "Do work while computer is in use?" i set no and in the home profile i set true.
At workplace the BOINC functioned well today, but when i start my PC at home the actual work state was "overtaken". At first i had suspended the work, but nothing happend, and i aborted it. Since then, the state of this work is "Ready to report" and i've got a message: "Remote control not allowed; using loopback address", and nothing is happening. In the work list there are two more elements with the state "Ready to run".

What is the problem?

Did you Suspend the Einstein

Message 22385 in response to message 22384

Did you Suspend the Einstein project, or just that one unit?
If the first, did you remember to Resume the EAH project?

"Remote control not allowed; using loopback address" is an information message telling you that you have not set this PC up as the host to check up on other computers on your network. It's normal when you only have one PC.

After you saved the changes to the preferences page, did you Update BOINC on the local computer?

Please leave some of your latest messages from the Messages tab here for us to scrutinize.

I get this message in the

Message 22387 in response to message 22382

I get this message in the messages tab and i am running albert 4.37 that you say should correct the problem. I have no problem with seti but rosetta somtimes also errors with this code. Windows screen saver mystify, not boinc, is usually active when it occurs and i get a windows error 'the instruction at 0x009a1f30 referenced memory at 0x009a1f30. the memory could not be read. press okay to terminate application'. i have tried resetting to remove and download the software. first unit after this failed. It is ALWAYS the same memory location. rosetta fails with a different memory location. I think maybe the base common code has a problem as i didnt see this issue until going to boinc 5.2.13

Dave,

There is an ongoing discussion of this problem on this thread:Message boards : Cruncher's Corner : New (Albert) application and workunits. I suggest that you join in over there.
