Sounds like you make a good case for retiring it from boinc processing. I am assuming the GPU is still needed in that system from work purposes.

I have two cheesegraters, my dual-cpu @ 3.47GHz had a RX570 and my single-cpu had 2 RX560s. I kit-bashed the dual-cpu MacPro plus the RX570 to fit all three cards and keep them cool. The single-cpu is a spare in case the dual-cpu tray or backplane dies.
It's running Mojave since I occasionally use Adobe Creative Suite 6 and refuse to pay Adobe's exorbitant subscription rates.
When running full-bore it generates 550-600 watts. It's the heater for my apartment during the cooler months. I turn it off during the warmer months.
It's currently running Einstein, WCG, and PrimeGrid.
Not bad for a 2009 computer. Although my 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max can average the same daily credits at less that 20% of the wattage (mostly PrimeGrid using the M1's GPU).
I'm getting a MacBook Air 15" this week. I'll run BOINC on it and see how it compares.
