Thanks Keith, Made a whole

Thanks Keith,

Made a whole bunch of changes and we'll see how they all shake out.  Cut back on cpu tasks!

Looks like you have made progress.  Most systems need at least 1 idle CPU thread, sometimes 2 to perform at their very best in either CPU or GPU tasks.

Yes that's what most people do, you could also exclude it but just saying don't sent me amd gpu tasks is easier

But wouldn't that shutdown the nVidia gpu tasks too?

NO it would not, go to your preferences, project and then the correct venue and select from these to get only the tasks you want:

Use CPU:

YES NO

Request CPU-only tasks from this project.

Use NVIDIA GPU:

YES NO

Request NVIDIA GPU tasks from this project.

Use AMD GPU:

YES NO

Request AMD GPU tasks from this project.

Use INTEL GPU:

YES NO

Request Intel GPU tasks from this project.

You can see each one has a yes/no choice to make so you can turn off the AMD tasks and still get the Nvidia tasks and then you also select which kind of tasks you want in the applications section:

Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo,GBT) (BRP4)

Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo,GBT,long) (BRP4G)

Binary Radio Pulsar Search (MeerKAT) (BRP7)

 Gamma-ray pulsar search #5 (FGRP5)

Gamma-ray pulsar binary search #1 on GPUs (FGRPB1G)

 All-Sky Gravitational Wave search on O3 (O3AS)

Multi-Directional Gravitational Wave search on O3 (GPU) (O3MDF)

Multi-Directional Gravitational Wave search on O3 (CPU) (O3MD1)

Hey, thanks all.  Things are

Hey, thanks all.  Things are improving immensely and I am only concerned about one machine now.  As hard as it is to imagine, it's my newest machine, the AMD Ryzen 7 4700G.  I cut way back on the cpu wus and am running a couple of AMD gpu wus and the 1050i card.  It's almost 300K a day, but I would expect better of it.  Just made some changes on it, so we'll see how it shakes out in a couple of days.

Thanks again,

Allen

It looks like your Ryzen 7 4700G is still using the cpu's built-in graphics capabilities to crunch, if you could stop that and let it just use the stand alone graphics card I think you would get much better credits out of that pc. I checked one of your tasks and it says the task is using the "gfx90c" graphics card which is the cpu's built-in graphics capabilities.

Yes, you are correct about the built in graphics.  This system has 16 threads and it takes about 20 hours to produce 1 WU, so I stopped all CPU WUs and started up 4 GPU WUs, which run in about 4 hours at this time, saving about 16 hours of processing time.

As for the 1050i WUs, I've found that they can only run about 4 WUs at a time before they become overloaded.  I'll just have to see how this works out for now.  Let you know in the future.

Thanks, Allen

Just about NO consumer Nvidia

Just about NO consumer Nvidia card can run 4 WU's concurrently without severe overloading and much too long completion times.  Exceptions for prosumer cards like the Titan etc. and only on certain projects.

Especially on a low end card like a 1050 Ti.  Best loading for that card would be 1X.  You would maximize your RAC for that card at 1X.

Is that due to the memory bandwidth?

Yes, for the most part. Ian has been running Titans and ADA4000 cards at 7X for some projects but also requires Nvidia MPS usage.
