No, but the heat from the computer under it can. Of course the ceramic isn't great at heat dissipation, an aluminium plate would be better and a fan blowing fresh air on it would be the best solution (well, actually two fans, one on each side of the phone). But I don't think it's possible to run BOINC on all cores of a phone without that it runs into thermal throttling unless you disassemble it and attach some kind of cooler to the SoC. So you'll have to find out how many tasks at once are best for your phone.
