OK, here's an odd one. There were two computers on my account, Desktop (XPSP2), and Old Laptop (XPSP2). A day or two ago I attached New Laptop (NT4). Now, under "Computers" in my account, things are a bit skrewy. Desktop is listed twice, each with zero credits and zero average results. New Laptop is listed as having ALL the credits and average that Desktop has done, and Old Laptop just keeps plugging along.

Will this work itself out as Desktop keeps crunching new WUs and the are validated and credit awarded? Should I merge the two Desktops now or wait? Any thoughts?

This happened (as far as I can tell) nearly simultaneously with SETI and Einstein. So I'm assuming it's something I did, need I do anything?

Cordially,
Rush

Separate Identities Assigned to the Wrong Computer

You need to unhide the computers and for your info there is no info that any browser or web site could get, listed on your acct......

As Jim said, we can't tell

As Jim said, we can't tell anything unless you "unhide" the computers... but did you by chance install BOINC on the new laptop by copying the folder from the desktop? That would explain it all, otherwise, if you really downloaded and installed using the installer, I'm lost...

Thanks guys, they are unhidden now. Any thoughts?

Jim, I think you are right. I did install from a disk, and I think I scrambled what I was backing up where and what I was copying. Crap that's annoying.

Now Einstein says I have two New Laptops and Two Desktops.

So, will it work itself out, or should I re-install BOINC somewhere...?

Thanks folks. Sorry for the problem. 8^]

Merge the 'old' laptop with the 'new', and the 'old' desktop with the 'new'.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

It'll all work out. Einstein _will_ "reassign" work if you merge systems, but in your case, where the laptop/desktops are all "confused", I'd be more tempted to just leave _everything_ alone, and then once everything is settled, just delete the "systems" that aren't active any more. Merging is fine if you want to, that won't hurt anything either, I just suspect it's going to be complicated to do. You can always try it; if it works, great!

The credits assigned to a host aren't important; your total credit is kept separately.

Thanks, Bill. I merged where I could, and that worked for SETI@home. Here I still have "two" identical laptops that won't merge, but only one of them is reporting results and getting credit, so the other will drop off eventually.

All is well. 8^]
