Betelgeuse is a giant star about 580 lightyears away from us. It is much brighter than normally.

I think I read about Betelgeuse 6 month or maybe a year ago somewhere, that its magnitude suddenly dropped. It later returned to previous levels, possibly due to planetary dust clouds. Maybe I'm confusing it with another variable star. Hopefully it's far enough to watch the show over popcorn without worrying.

Hallo!

Probably it has blown up, just now. But they will know about just in 560 years, when no one will remember for us. 560 years is very short in regard to the lifetime of a star.

Nevertheless, kind regards and happy crunching

Martin
