Hi
Why are the Gravitational Wave search O2/O3 apps, that can be selected in the preferences / project list selection of the cruncher profile, not visible on the server status and even the application page ?
(not that I can use them, last time it I tried it was not doing anything, but still)

those searches/campaigns are complete. there's no work. if there's another GW campaign, it'll likely be completely new and not under the same applications or name.
admins just haven't gotten around to removing them from the preferences page i guess.

I would guess that if they removed all the ones that don't have tasks anymore it would look pretty slim pickings to any new people coming along
Oh OK, they removed them from

Oh OK, they removed them from server status and application page but not from preference page, it makes sense :)
So this has happened between beginning of this year (when I was reporting problems running O3 on my Mac and now, I don't follow up the life of each boinc project...
There are tasks for 5 apps, it's not that bad Mikey ! There are many projects who always had one single app ;)

Agreed Einstein has had a fairly big group of dedicated crunchers day in and day out over the long term and to make it 'seem' like they are now struggling to have tasks available could put them on the 'check ya later' list if someone is looking to find a project for a period of time. On top of that there are several threads about lack of tasks for varying kinds of hardware and that too can put people off if when you try you don't get any
Personally I think the lack of clarity in the list of what kind of tasks run on the cpu or the gpu or both makes it harder than it needs to be as well
I think we would be crunching

I think we would be crunching O4 data now if it wasn't for detector upgrades ( yeah ! ) and COVID ( boo ... hisss ). Last I heard was that LIGO/Virgo/Kagra will be taking readings from March next year. When that data becomes available for general consumption I expect we will again be up to our necks/eyebrows in analyses. ;-)
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...
