I had to abort all my GPU tasks on this laptop. Earlier in the week, it rebooted, and there was no GPU except for the Intel one... It through up an error 32 about a GPU problem detected and Windows stopped it. There was also a STOP code thrown out... I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, no dice. The laptop is 4.5 years old approximately.
I had to take it in once last year to get dusted out, with some repairs, and also replace the initial power brick as it went bad. But there was definitely 1 thermal event with overheating a year ago, for which it held up until now. A new laptop is ordered, but I figured it would be better to get the WUs out to another user more quickly so the tasks can be returned, given I'm now sans the nVidia GTX 1060 on this lappy....

Sorry to hear that!! I had to get the MB replaced in my own laptop last year when it wouldn't even boot up and now the gpu on it, an Nvidia 1650, won't crunch at all without the thing going into major overheat mode. I am stuck doing cpu tasks only and I can't do all of them like I used to either!! I have a rechargeable blower I bought that works great to blow things out but no more dust stuff is coming out so I think it just is what it is. The laptop is only 3 years old and I'm not replacing it anytime soon but I sure can't crunch with it like I used too.

I think we all know the feeling. I remember how quickly credits racked up in bitcoin utopia. It will take awhile to get an equal number of credits beside...
For me it's not quite so bad except having to trash hundreds of WUs; but not much to be said when a GPU dies. No GPU, it isn't crunching. On the other hand, the new laptop is estimated to be here by about next Wednesday, so won't be long.

should be a fair upgrade over my current laptop which has an older quad core i7, 16 GB of RAM, and a now defunct nVidia GTX 1060...

YES it should be a big upgrade for you!! If the old machine still boots you can put Linux on it and still crunch your favorite cpu projects with it pretty reliably.

Odd, it's setup, but it is only downloading CPU tasks for Einstein, even though the settings are to not allow CPU and allow nVidia tasks only. It won't get any. I tried in GPUgrid, and itj's grabbing those without incident. The new laptop does come with Windows 11 though, vs Windows 10 on the old one...

Don't have the host on the correct venue or location that is set for no cpu tasks.
You don't have any OpenCL drivers loaded for the gpu tasks at Einstein.
You have the standard Nvidia drivers loaded which support the CUDA only applications at GPUGrid.
That is the discrepancy you are seeing.
Your computers are 'hidden'
)
Your computers are 'hidden' so others can't see any details of what your computer most recently requested and the scheduler reply to that request.
There's a pinned comment in the 'Getting Started' forum that goes through how to use the scheduler logs. You should be able to work out why the scheduler didn't supply GPU tasks. Make sure there actually was a non-zero request for GPU work.
If you got CPU tasks when a CPU search was not selected, are you sure (under Prefs -> Project) that "Use CPU" was set to "No"? Even if you haven't selected a CPU search, there is a setting for allowing "Non-Preferred" apps that might be the culprit. You should set that to "No" to see if CPU tasks then stop coming.
EDIT: I see Keith has already replied with other things to check as well.
Cheers,
Gary.
Yeah, I changed that to no,

Yeah, I changed that to no, and the other was set. I'm not sure why, but it didn't even request GPU tasks, which isn't by project preferences. Totally mystified on that. This is now the latest 7.20.2 client. It says the project preferences are something other then well my old laptop indicated. I'll have to dig around a bit as I had to set everything up quickly between 2 work days (10 hour shifts), and only wanted to spend so much time on computer install and setup before hitting the sack. Thanks.

OK, after a little digging I found the culprit, and it actually sounds stupid. For whatever reason, the new computer was put in the home profile, which wasn't setup as I remember or changed from the defaults. So all the changes were made in generic; as such it wasn't following my actual, well used profile. Maybe, I used it like 15 to 20 years ago when I was rebuilding an old computer I gave to my father back when I still lived in the dorms, but can't remember specifically as it was around 2 decades ago. Anyhow it should work now. I had too much to do with an instillation last night, to have looked for something like that, with less then 12 hours before heading to work again :o
On the project preferences
)
On the project preferences page at the bottom, make sure that Home location is not set to be the default location for newly attached computers.
DEFAULT SET Set used for new computers: YES NO
Go to the Generic location preferences page and toggle this to YES for newly attached computers default location.
