Not sure what electric cars has to do with computer crunching Einstein. This thread is way off topic.

For goodness sake this topic was created to move off topic things from elsewhere and you still complain.  I'll talk about what I like, so spank me.

Given you are not the OP of this thread, that's a very bold statement.  Highjacking of someone else's thread is frowned upon. If you really wanted to take this discussion in a different direction. You should have just started your own separate thread.

To say they are part of the change to a more healthy environment, YES they know that electric vehicles really aren't environmentally friendly but it doesn't matter...it's the illusion. Kind of like owning a Bentley or Rolls Royce in the UK or Scotland, it's a status symbol and truth be damned.

Indeed.  Since we're already using all the renewables to power stuff, if we add more load to the grid (the electric cars), those will be using nothing but coal and oil and gas.  Those cars are basically using fossil fuels remotely.  Not to mention the rare and running out Lithium mined in terrible conditions that kills the minors.

Oh and just so you know the Tesla's are now $49K US to start!!

I'm surprised they're that cheap, I thought Tesla only made supercars at half a million plus.

Although they do resell trade-ins for less though you have to be careful as they've made some people very mad by deleting options on the vehicle because 'you aren't the original owner', so you may THINK you are getting this or that upgraded feature but Tesla could delete it at the next software upgrade.
What can you "delete" on a car?  How and why?!

There are alot of 'upgrades' you can get on a Tesla just like any other car, alot of them can be turned on or off depending on whether "you" paid for them or not. They were sued awhile back by some guy who bought a Tesla 2nd hand and then when he took it in for routine maintenance Tesla turned off some large dollar upgrade because "he" didn't buy them, Tesla won in Court but lost in the area of public opinion so turned them back on for him but no 'official word on everyone else they've also done that stuff too.

Tesla's can also get upgrades thru wifi while your car is in the driveway so they can turn things on and off that way too. ie if you buy one button up and down windows then they turn it on and next time you get in the car it just works.

And there's another thing people never consider.  Electricity is cheaper just now because the government puts a huge tax on gas.  Once everyone is on electric, they're gonna tax your electric car, then how much will it cost to run?

Here in the US they are already talking about adding a 'mileage tax' for every hybrid vehicle, it's by County or State though not by the Federal Government at least not yet, to offset the lost money from the gas tax that the Feds get from people buying gas. Right now all of that money the Feds collect is sent back to the States but the States are losing money hand over fist as more and more people buy hybrid vehicles.

As an aside that money is how the Feds lowered the National speed limit to 55mph 30 years ago and the drinking age to 21 years old, the Feds just said 'no money for you unless you pass these laws in your State', the politics of money is VERY shady and convoluted.

And to keep people happy this years Boinc Pentathlon has started and Universe is the first 'race', but in a day and a half a 'Javelin Throw' event starts and will last for a single day. Universe is the project for the entire Pentathlon. 14 days, but there are 4 other smaller duration 'events' along the way. This is what we know this far, have fun:

13 Days 10:41:19
Until endStart: 05 May 2022 00:00 UTC
End: 19 May 2022 00:00 UTC

1 Day 10:41:19
Until startStart: 07 May 2022 00:00 UTC
End: 08 May 2022 00:00 UTC

3 Days 10:41:19
Until startStart: 09 May 2022 00:00 UTC
End: 14 May 2022 00:00 UTC

I don't need to be the owner to know why the thread is here.  Why are you being all OCD about topics anyway?  Learn the art of conversation.  So you're right and everyone else in here is wrong?  Go start your own forum.  Or you could always block everyone in here and sit in the corner.

No no no that's just criminal, if you own the car, everything in it is yours, they have no right to turn it off.  Perhaps it's about time some hackers worked out how to just enable everything.

It's damn stupid business also.  Why build an expensive car then sell it cheap because a lot is switched off?  That cost them money to make the bits that will never be used.  It's also environmentally irresponsible.

Mr Musk, you are boycotted for life, goodbye.

Because then he can sell the same options multiple times, it's called 'continued revenue' and if people let him it may just spread to other manufacturers as well. To me the key is simple NEVER buy a used Tesla unless you are very happy with it being the basic model and not one loaded with options.

Vote libertarian.  The government does way more harm than good, it would be better just living free.

I really shouldn't give out details incase rival teams get to know, but there will be a few Javelins.  Also the Universe one has three bonus days with 2 to 3 times the points.  Bunkering is a good way to get huge amounts of points - use your firewall to prevent access to a project, after downloading several days work.  Then let it all out when the day comes for the points.

Selling the same thing multiple times most definitely is a crime.  It's like me selling you a TV, stealing it from your house, then selling it to your neighbour.  That was your TV.

I doubt I'd ever buy an overpriced Tesla anyway, they're crazy prices like Apple.

I started this thread. I

I started this thread.

I asked the off topic conversations to be moved here from motherboard reviews where it was not even vaughly on topic.

I think the way it got to electric cars is because solar power for our systems came up.

Maybe I should start another general conversation thread?

Or start talking about wishes/wants/needs for our systems?

Never going to happen here in the US, the two main political parties are waaaay too entrenched to allow that to happen, the two main parties really DO make the rules.
