The last week or so Ive been playing with alternate screensavers for e@h. Now I get random freeze ups with a hard crash that requires a reboot. Ive tried uninstalling e@h then deleting any folders left behind... reboot... reinstall... but I still get the crash every 10 minutes or so. If I dont reinstall then theres no problem. So... any ideas? Maybe some artifact left in the system registry (i havent touched it). Im stumped. Even tried restoring system image from a week ago to no avail. Help...!

If this is your Windows 8 pc

If this is your Windows 8 pc you could be trying to use code that didn't exist when that OS was distributed and Windows itself is complaining. Are you using screensavers from Boinc now? If so try using a MS built-in one instead and see if that helps. Another thing is to set Boinc to only use 99% of the available cpu's as your pc could just be doing something and can't switch tasks before you reset. Mind you that switch could take hours and hours if you really are running Boinc at 100% of cpu's and 100% of the cpu's time.

Try cutting the 100% number down to 90% and see if it makes a difference, if not then you might try putting whatever program is trying to run instead of Boinc in the 'Exclusive Applications' section meaning Boinc stops when it's running. It's under Options in the Boinc Manager. Sometimes Boinc doesn't stop as quickly as we would like and releasing resources can be even slower so effective 'sandboxing' the things we need to run instead can be helpful. As you know every piece of software in a pc runs as a percentage of the whole, sometimes Boinc doesn't play nice with other things.
