I was using G. Skill Trident-Z 3200CL14 and I could only get 3400 stable. I never tried loosening the timings for 3466 though. 3400 was good enough at CL14 Fast timings.
I went from Kingston 3000 (Overclocked to 3200) to the Corsair 3600 under-clocked to 3466 and the only way I can tell any difference is thru bench marking.
CPUs and memory are a bit expensive depending on hardware chosen
price, $600+
will swap to a 7443P whenever it my pre-order ships. the board has been solid on just a 7402P, and I didn't have much issue updating the BIOS and BMC firmware for Milan support.
Has anyone got any BOINC experience with the MSI x570 Godlike motherboard?
The reason I am asking is I am having very bad luck trying to run any kind of risers or flat ribbon cables.
I asked a eBay seller offering one used on eBay and he confirmed the spacing on the PCIe slots seems to be standard.
That would lead to using 4 Rtx 3080 ti Founder Edition gpus or switching to water cooled gpus.
The only other idea I have for avoiding a server motherboard with the cost of the fancier ram modules is switch to a Threadripper motherboard.
I could bottom feed the Threadripper CPU and still push 4 Rtx 3080 ti Founder Edition gpus.

this epyc board with ram that I’ve linked would be about $70-80 more than the x570 godlike and you’ll have a MUCH better platform for about the same cost. I think you’re wasting money trying to spend so much on a consumer board.

Thank you for a robust counter argument. The cost of the Ram modules had been a major tipping point.
I will take a look. Sounds like grabbing the Ram at that low a price would be a good quick choice. Raising the money for the MB will take some finagling.
Anyone what a used Asus ROG CH8 at a high enough price to finance half the proposed new EPYC MB? (Probably not since I can't get it to run 3 gpus).

I am beginning to think if I have one monster system to tinker with I may be a happier camper.

I know of only a few RAM hungry or intensive BOINC cpu apps that you can see the times improve with faster memory timings and clocks.
I agree with your consensus though, it doesn't matter mostly.

I would not spend $600 on a consumer x570 motherboard. Even if the board new is supposed to be 800+.
You can buy a NEW AsRock EPYCD8 board from Newegg for $470 with free shipping. NEW. Granted it’s a little more pricey than it was a year ago, but again it’s NEW and direct from Newegg, not some 3rd party with unknown history. https://www.newegg.com/asrock-rack-epycd8-amd-epyc-7000-series-processor-family/p/N82E16813140010
You still have the Naples CPU you can use with it, provided you take care and make sure not to bend pins during install.
do you still have the memory? If not you can get the 2666MHz 16GB modules from here for $55 including shipping (he’ll probably even take $45-50/stick if buying 4x) : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Micron-16GB-2Rx8-PC4-2666V-DDR4-ECC-Memory-RAM-MTA18ASF2G72PDZ-2G6-CL19-288-Pin-/224773754573?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
