Hello,

I successfully installed Boinc and added my account here. Boinc runs and I see tasks running. However, the Show Graphics button is grayed out. Any and all help you can supply will be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance for your support!

Regards,

John

Amidst the installation

Amidst the installation process, did you hit the checkbox? :-)

I don't have any Pi machines, but if you're trying to run the screensaver on a Raspberry Pi machine, odds are that there is not enough graphics available to do so.

Hi Solling2,

Thanks in advance for your reply. However, I don't know what you are referring to "...did you hit the checkbox?". Please clarify.

Thanks,

John

Hi George,

Thanks for your reply. How can I tell whether my Raspberry Pi 4 does or does not have enough graphics?

Hi John! My fault there. I was referring  to Windows where they had an option to install or skip screensaver in the installation process.  The Boinc manual has a short chapter on screensavers in different systems.

Usually when the Show

Usually when the Show Graphics button is greyed-out means the app doesn't have/support graphics. The last time I ran the stock BRP4 app I don't recall it supporting graphics. The optimized BRP4 app and the arm64 FGRP5 apps don't support graphics either.

As for the amount of GPU memory on a Pi, you can set that at boot time on a Raspberry Pi by running the raspi-config program and adjusting it. The more memory you give to the GPU means less available for programs to use. You'll need to reboot after setting it for it to take effect. I don't think you'll see any difference with a larger amount of memory allocated to the GPU. I run my Pi's headless (no screen or keyboard) so I reduce it to the minimum, which is 16MB.
