Power Limiting and/or

Power Limiting and/or undervolting is what you're after.

https://einsteinathome.org/host/12803503

  • 8x 2070 @150W each (1200W)
  • ~8,000,000 RAC
  • ~6,666 credit/watt

https://einsteinathome.org/host/12803483

  • 7x 2080 @185W each (1295W)
  • ~8,000,000 RAC
  • ~6177 credit/watt

https://einsteinathome.org/host/12803486

  • 7x 2080Ti @225W each (1575W)
  • ~10,600,000 RAC
  • ~6730 credit/watt

https://einsteinathome.org/host/12830750

  • 1x 3080Ti @300W
  • ~2,550,000 RAC
  • ~8500 credit/watt

My rig : 12836077 One

My rig : 12836077

One Titan V @180W and three RTX2080Ti @270-290W each, totalling 1010W

RAC 6 600 000

6535 RAC/W

The titan does one task in 146 seconds, i.e. it uses least energy and produces most credit on my machine. It is thermally throttled air cooled nice and warm 88C. I do not know how fast it would be when properly cooled and using its 300W.

How much energy per credit?

Energy: 87264000 J    (24*3600s*1010J/s, about half a gallon of diesel fuel worth of energy)

Consumption :  87264000J / 6600000 CREDIT = 13.2 J/Cr

That titanV is certainly the

That titanV is certainly the best efficiency card on the project at the moment. ~11,000 credit/watt for it alone.

Good evening

Good evening everyone.

This is my first post in einestein@home.

I would have one question. Does anyone tried a gpu Nvidia quadro(rtx 4000, A4000, 5000, ecc) for the project?

Thanks

I expect they will perform in line with similarly spec’d GTX/RTX GeForce cards. Einstein’s ( and most other BOINC projects) user base is mostly composed of hobbyist volunteers. The price to performance of the professional level cards often isn’t worth it, and that’s the main reason most people don’t run them. The extra features brought with quadro cards (more vram, FP64) usually do little for the purposes of Einstein.

if you have it already, go for it. But I wouldn’t pay the extra cost just to have one over a GeForce card.

Ok thanks. My main thought

Ok thanks.

My main thought has been also on the performance/power ratio (FP32/TDP).

All gaming geforce RTX have a ratio less than 110 (for example ASUS ROG STRIX LC RTX 3080 Ti GAMING OC has the FP32 of 37480 GFLOPS with TDP 350 watt with FP32/TDP = 107 and a cost of 2000€ or over)

An RTX A4000 has the FP32 of 19170 GFLOPS with TDP of 140 watt with FP32/TDP = 136.9 and a cost of 1200€ (this price is what I have found)

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/rtx-a4000.c3756

With this ratio and a cost less than an gaming RTX, it could be an advantage?

I have not considered RTX A5000 and A6000 because the price is higher than gaming RTX and it is not convenient.

What do you think?

Thanks

for Einstein, that RTX A4000

for Einstein, that RTX A4000 will perform about on par with an RTX 3070. the A4000 has slightly more cores, but it's offset by the lower clock speed vs the 3070. The 3070 pulls ahead, and is much less expensive. you may find thermal constraints (or noise if that's a factor for you) on the single slot cooler of the A4000 as well, even with lower TDP.

If you are talking gpu Collatz is the hands down winner by a WIDE margin, cpu I don't know anymore

Good point. Collatz seems to be exceptionally free with their awarding of points.

Doesn't help when mapped to E@H though.

That narrows the answer quite a bit then and I think it's:

Gamma-ray pulsar binary search #1 (GPU) at 3k credits per short task
