What do you expect from crunching Einstein@Home?

Personally, I don't expect anything from Einstein@Home.

I'm happy to do my bit for science, including detecting gravity waves in particular.

But what do YOU expect from Einstein?

Do you like to do the crunching as a hobby?

Do you like to do the crunching because it's fun?

Do you like to do the crunching because you enjoy getting the most out of your computer(s)?

Do you crunch on more than one machine because you hope to get a reward for detecting gravity waves?

Do you crunch to see how many BOINC credits you get from Einstein@Home?

Do you crunch to keep you out of bars at night?

What is YOUR reason for doing the project Einstein@Home?

To aid in the discovery of

To aid in the discovery of continuous gravity waves, thereby increasing our knowledge of the universe.  Each search is more and more sensitive, so I am hopeful that a discovery will be made soon.

I am expecting the magic of

I am expecting the magic of petri33 to be included in the GPU app before I jump back in.

I look for efficiency in all projects.

Currently in process at the project see the Wish List forum post.

It's implemented now in the v1.28 beta app. you need to enable beta tasks to get this app. but it works, on Linux at least. you need openCL 2.0 drivers (465+). It'll be interesting to see if the Windows app works too.

I crunch because I can, the actual Project I crunch for doesn't matter as much to me any more because 99.9% of what we are doing is above my level of understanding anyway.

I crunch on multiple machines because they are relatively cheap to build or in some cases buy and I have a ship load of pc parts available to upgrade the ones I do buy.

I also crunch to get new badges and to upgrade existing badges, I do not crunch for Boinc credits as much as hours per app working on my badges at wuprop.

Yes pc's are my hobby but lately the gpu's are waaaay out of my price range so I may have to give up on some goals at least until the gpu's come back down to realistic prices again.

I crunch Einstein for the reasons stated above and because most  Projects don't have apps for my Raspberry Pi's.

I also crunch to give credits to my Team and to help keep those on my Team keep crunching.

I think you mean openCL 3.0 drivers.

.....[EDIT].....

With drivers 465+ I get openCL 3.0, a change from openCL 2.0.  Are you sure it's openCL 2.0?

I run the latest 3302.5 drivers (21.30 packgae) on my RX 570, and BOINC says they are OpenCL 2.0.

Whatever they are, my times have decreased from 30 min to a little over 13 minutes; very nice.

I think Ian&Steve was referring to Nvidia drivers when he mentioned 465+, that is an Nvidia driver.

I should have said “at least 2.0”. The functions being used are not available until 2.0. But OpenCL is backwards compatible. So if you have 3.0, then you still have 2.0 features. But for AMD cards there are only 2.0 drivers and those will work for this. (Whenever they get the app made)
