If you are running Windows.

If you are running Windows.  And are running one or more Rx 460 to Rx 580 GPUs what version/date of GPU driver are you using?  And how many GPU tasks are you running at the same time? And which GPU task (Gamma Ray/Gravity Wave/Other).

My Rx 580 box seems to have become unstable (again).   It was just crashing the GPU driver and halting GPU processing.  However, it has just crashed the whole system and rebooted for the 2nd time in as many days.

Every once in a while I run

Every once in a while I run across a windows 10 listing that says ,"core edition". I haven't seen it for sale like professional, home, and enterprise editions. Anyone got a clue?

This is a problem with the

This is a problem with the Einstein server.  Nothing wrong with Tom's host.  The problem is being discussed here by Gary, Ian and Richard.

Tasks expiring out in 3 minutes

Windows 10 Core is the version that you'd get when upgrading from plain Windows 8 or 8.1 (not Pro, not Enterprise).

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/14374.windows-8-1-editions-skus-and-features.aspx

"Windows 10 Home within the Windows 8/8.1 family is also known as Core edition, also known as Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 8/8.1 Single Language. This edition does not include certain premium business features such as Domain Join, Hyper-V, Group Policy Editor, Remote Desktop, Language Packs, or BitLocker Drive Encryption."

Has anyone been using the

Has anyone been using the Linux under Windows system? Does it CPU crunch faster for a project like universe at home?

Do you gain the same GPU crunching speedups that you get under a straight Linux install?

I am curious because my Daily Driver is a Windows box but all my most productive boinc crunching is under Ubuntu/Linux.

It would be nice if I could have my cake and eat it too.

AFAIK, you get the same

AFAIK, you get the same performance or close to it running Linux under WSL.

I dont know if it helps, i only run Einstein. Some days ago I installed Debian on a pc i normally run W11 (Computer 13084102), the CPU tasks had the same performance. GPU tasks(FGRPB1G) took almost twice as long and had lots of "validation inconclusive", often being marked as invalid.

I just had a look at that computer (ID=13084102)  It shows a total of six tasks only, 4 of which are CPU tasks and 2 are FGRPB1G

All 4 CPU tasks show as "in progress" so I'm not sure how you can say that they take the same time as for Windows.  There are no finished tasks to compare with

Both GPU tasks have been completed, returned. and validated.  There are no invalid or inconclusive tasks.

Perhaps you are looking at a different computer and not the one linked above??

EDIT:  I notice that your GPU is an RX 580.  I use both RX 570 and RX 580 and they both take fairly similar crunch times.  If I run tasks one at a time, they take around 9 mins.  If I run two concurrently (x2) the pair will complete in around 16+ mins or so.

Your two validated tasks took around 18.5 mins and 19+ mins.  If they ran concurrently, they were a little on the slow side.  If they ran consecutively (one after the other) then they were indeed very slow.  They were reported around 20 mins apart which seems to suggest they were not run as a pair.  You might like to try not running any CPU tasks to see if the GPU tasks would run at the proper speed.

Cheers,
Gary.

Yes, i did the Debian test

Yes, i did the Debian test i mentioned, some months ago, I deleted the computer some time ago, there were no more tasks attached to it.

That computer i mentioned (ID=13084102) is the same "physical" computer, the very same hardware, but it is a different Debian installation. When i did the test some months ago, I got the same results as this one, the GPU tasks took the same time to complete(around 18 minutes), and indeed... this computer (ID=13084102) ran Boinc just a bit, this one was just a kind of "side quest", I installed Debian to test my ADS-B receiver running on that hardware, but then, I quickly reverted to W11, which is running right now(ID=13071221).

I really like Debian for its stability, my two Rpi 3B can run for months without touching it, one of them also runs four ADS-B feeders. I'm not too skilled on Linux, it takes me quite a long time to figure out how to do stuff, I dont know how to optimize it, also, i can't devote to much time to it, so i stick with Windows.

About the tasks "validation inconclusive", sorry, my mistake!! I confused with another computer that did the same task, i just saw now it is validated.

Regarding these two GPU tasks completed, i ran one at a time(GPU Factor 1.00), with 100% CPU core utilization and 100% CPU time utilization. There were two CPU tasks running along with these two GPU ones. I have another SSD, when i have some spare time in the next days, i will install Debian and try to run only GPU as you suggested!!

When i run W10 or W11 on this same hardware, with these same settings(GPU factor 1.00, 100% CPU core utilization and 100% CPU time utilization), the RX580 can complete a FGRPB1G task in around 9-10 minutes, as you mentioned, that's why i reverted back to Windows. If i could get this same completion times on GPU tasks on Debian even with CPU tasks running, i would love to switch to Linux!!

In Windows, if i am running a dedicated GPU, i can also run the integrated GPU without losing performance, be it GPU or CPU tasks, when i try to run the integrated GPU on Linux, it freezes everything.
