Well, nowadays you have to 'calculate' with your probabilities of getting certain cards at certain price points. Getting a 6900xt for 986 (incl tax+shipping) without even really trying / spending time on looking, vs. spending hours and hours on looking (incl frustrations) for an 6800xt at 650 euros, with very low probability I would get one. Less stress and wasted effort is worth something.
the highest performing Radeon VIIs seemed to be doing ~1,700,000-1,900,000 per day per GPU. that's assuming the older tasks which were always very stable in run time.
not accounting for these new tasks, which look to run faster (and hence earn more credit per day)
but arch wants a very specific model of 6800XT that costs as much as a 6900XT.
Here in the USA Big Navi cards were scarce to the point of near invisibility in December. Lately, I've sighted a few indications of slightly better availability, but much higher price.
Not counting resales ("Scalping") I suppose the higher price may mainly trace to the end of the exemption from a 25% tariff at the end of last year.
Sightings:
1. After NowinStock posted zero in stock moments for any model of 6800 XT from November 28 to January 25, they've had three sightings since. All at Amazon. Three different manufacturers, all priced near $1050. Each window terminated four minutes after it opened.
2. NewEgg accepted requests to be on an email notification list.
3. NewEgg briefly actually had an order button for a third party seller shipping from Hong Kong for a couple of hundred dollars more.
4. BHPhotovideo accepted requests for notification.
5. The number of (mostly very small) Amazon third-party sellers offering a particular model I'm interested in rose from zero at the beginning of January to two wanting about $2000, to, just now, eight wanting $1600 to $1800.
6. The number of offerings on eBay is up, and the apparent transaction prices have dropped. I just watched one of the exact model I'd like go for $1250 yesterday.
I have no idea when general availability will open up. I won't claim that it makes much financial sense to buy one of these if you can copy Gary Roberts and find working RX 570 cards for $120 (but most of us can't)
But since this is a Big Navi thread, I thought I'd mention it. Also, so far as I know the 25% tariff is a USA matter, so possibly prices in Australia or Germany may be less forbidding. Also, the hoped-for power efficiency improvement may be more interesting in high power price locations, such as Germany.

As pointed out earlier in this thread, the 6900XT is not quite on par with the old Radeon vii in terms of crunching performance but I'm rolling with it in this host as it consumes far less electric than a vii, runs much much cooler and is genuinely silent in operation.
In my opinion the limitation with this card is the 256bit memory bus being the same as the 6800/6800XT which if you can buy one are both cheaper and potentially capable of matching the 6900XT's crunching performance. AMD should have differentiated their top end card by using a wider memory bus or better yet giving it the vii's HBM to play with.

So you are predicting that it will come in at under 2,200,000 Rac (the highest VII singleton on the list)?

My (very loose) prediciction is that with my current x2 task concurrency (and also assuming the faster running GRP tasks we are currently enjoying continue) the 6900XT will peak at around 2,150,00 RAC.
