Hi, I have added the Einstein@Home project to the World Community Grid application on my private PC. But because the fans of my graphics card get too loud at ~100% GPU usage, I would like to limit it, like it is possible to limit CPU usage.

I searched the forums already but only found info about the scaling factor, which I think does not apply, as I have just 1 GPU and want to decrease the usage, not increase it.

Also in the project settings, I lowered the fps/hz config to the minimum of 5 and the resolution to the minimum of 640x480. But GPU usage does not seem to change even one day later, after updating and resetting the project in World Community Grid.

Is it even possible to limit/lower the GPU usage?

Since your computers are hidden it's tough to give a good answer but I will start if you run Windows checkout the program MSIAfterburner, it works for all brands of gpu's and will let you adjust the settings of your gpu as long as your gpu allows it.You can get it here https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html scroll to the bottom of the page and you can choose either the beta or the stable version.

GPUs are meant to process

GPUs are meant to process data (image display) in real time so if they have work it will be at 100% usage. The best way for reduce temp/noise is to lower the clocks/power limits as mentioned by MIkey. Usage will still be at 100%.

A third party application

A third party application called TThrottle, written and offered by Fred, the author of BOINCTasks, lets you set maximum temperature for CPU and GPU.  It throttles down BOINC applications as needed to stay within those limits.

If it works in your situation, it would provide a more direct way of limiting the fan noise that bothers you than a direct limitation of GPU percentage would.

The throttling in this case is not done by reducing voltage or clock rate, but rather by "blipping" the actual running.  While I currently run TThrottle on my machines, I don't currently run it for active temperature control, so can't comment on how well it plays with the current Einstein applications, let alone with any other BOINC applications you might try to let it manage.

Thanks everyone for the all

Thanks everyone for the all info! Tried Afterburner first but TThrottle is even more convenient. :)
