Yes alot of people run Boinc 24/7/365, it's not required or anything like that it's just easy as those are the default settings. Some of us have even gone so far as to get 'Boinc only' machines meaning all they do 24/7 is run Boinc but that gets expensive in the electric bill pretty quickly. PC's put out alot of heat so they need to be cooled too and that adds to that electric bill increase.
What do you mean by reputation? Do you mean your rac then yes but only as you start to run out of tasks since you aren't crunching as many tasks the rac will go down. If you mean your ability to come back here then no not at all, there are lots of Boinc projects and lots of people jump from project to project for many various reasons. One of them being badges as you can see by my signature below.
You should print them off and get them sewn to an item of clothing, like boy scouts do.

Try living in Scotland, then they're scientific heaters. Mine are heating the lovebird aviary. And it appears to be working, there are eggs!

The only thing that stops projects giving you tasks (or usually they just give you less, giving you the opportunity to fix it) is if you return a lot of failures.
I did once get an email from a project admin when I ran Boinc from my work. My work connected to the internet through a proxy which was somehow corrupting the returned data. Only one project complained so I just detached from that one.

LOL No I was in the Holy Loch in the mid 70's as a young US Navy guy. Got a tattoo in Edinburgh and got the scars from slag from the welding I did on the dry dock.

He will be in a few months. Lovebirds hit puberty at around 6-8 months.
