Yes, that is normal. It's nothing to do with the size of your cache of work. It would still be the same if your settings were 0.05 days plus 0.00 extra days, since the "project files" are not the jobs you are processing.
The largest segment of those 2392 project files would be LIGO data files that are needed not only for current tasks but potentially for many future tasks as well. To save heaps of download bandwidth (by repeatedly having to download the same data each time), those files are kept until they are no longer needed. At that point (which may be well in the future) the project will issue a 'delete' request so that your BOINC client will automatically remove them when the data is truly no longer needed.
