Install Ubuntu 19.10 on a Pi 4

Topic 219863

While I realize there is a Raspberry Pi topic I thought that installing Ubuntu 19.10 on a Pi 4 deserved it own thread so as to not loose site of the installation process.  I could post the procedure here but for the present I have the procedure on my website.  While the procedure seems to install Ubuntu there is an issue with wireless networking which I would like to fix before posting the procedure here assuming the community would approve.

The problem with wireless is that if power saving or screen saver is invoked then when you revive the system your are disconnected from the wifi network.  Using network manager is useless.  It no longer lists available networks.  Logging of and on will not work either.  A reboot will recover.  My current work around is to disable screen saver and power saver and use my monitor's power switch.  Then I have no problems with wifi disconnecting. The Pi 4 just runs.  Not a problem if I want to crunch

To view/try the procedure you can visit this webpage: http://usefulramblings.org/?page_id=12166

EDIT 10/29/19:  I have managed to fix/correct the instability on the WIFI side.  The solution was to install the Ubuntu desktop system (gnome 3).  By doing this I noted that some network manager mods were being installed among other things.  I have since enabled power saving and screen saver and when they both kick in I can wake the system, still have wifi connectivity and view available networks through the manager.  Also the desktop with Ubuntu gnome is outstanding!!!

Thanks Mikey.  It is worth

Thanks Mikey.  It is worth knowing that this did take some effort and a bit of luck.  The second desktop install fixed the wifi disconnect problem on screen saver and power saver activation.  I just did not like the first desktop so I thought I would try another one - and a miracle!!!! - wifi disconnect fixed.

I could post the procedure

I could post the procedure here if it would be in keeping with the approval of E@H's  moderators, etc.  I realize that this community is not about Raspberry Pi-s so if the decision to not post was no I would be ok with that.  Also I do hesitate a bit myself because I have not had anyone tell me that they have tried the procedure and had the same level of success as me.  Just let me know.  I am in the middle of an Ubuntu 19.10 upgrade on my webserver machine as I type so if stuff goes radically wrong the procedure will disappear.

TIA,

robl
