Hey guys, I find it really cool to help with my little computer at home, and so forth I’m really fond of looking at the certificate to see how much floating point operations I have contributed.
The only downside is that the certificate is really bland, no decorative stuff or some bells and whistles you normally see on certificates. Something that shines of proud. (I know it sounds a bit superficial, but hear me out.)
Also since the certificate gets outdated really fast, since you obviously continue to add up in score I have a suggestion to tackle both problems.
Some simple decoration banner or seal is easy done with photoshop as a new template, but wouldn’t it be very cool to also have a part of the certificate background displaying for example the fastest super computer in the word.
That way if you print out the certificate every year you not only see the score go up but get a glimpse of how compute itself is changing over time, and that way it would be very fun to have multiple certificates collected over the years.
Or just the most important scientific discovery or subject of that year relating to einstein@home on the background.
Would be a quite simple and easy thing to do, changing the template once a year or so.
Hope to hear if anyone else would like this (or dislike).

I would think that if you did
)
I would think that if you did the research and found something you liked they would consider it either as an optional certificate or even a replacement for the current one. Remember though it can NOT be copyrighted photos or designs as anyone can download a certificate.

To second Mikey's response; feel free to design something for us. We have other priorities that need our attention, and often the art and design tasks of things gets pushed back. If you or any of our volunteers want to get involved in coordinating some art for the project, I encourage you to do so.

My photoshop skills are not
)
My photoshop skills are not at uber professional levels.
That said Its no problem for me to try and create something that has an extra coolness factor.
Of course I am fully aware of the copyright laws and issue’s, so I will be very careful if selecting external content, and own content is of course not copyright.
And maybe that will inspire other people to join in as well.
I will try and create some different ideas/templates in the coming days, feel free to give suggestions or ideas.
What would you guys like, more just formal? More towards the space theme? Einstein theme? Or my previous suggestion about the Top super computer for that year?
In any case I will make a couple of different versions and post them
Hey guys like promised some
)
Hey guys like promised some very rough sketch idea’s.
Again I’m no photoshop hero but think turned out to be pretty decent.
I made a version with Fermi, and one with summit (world fastest computer atm).
Tried some different lettering, but not sure what would fit the best.
If we would implement different themes over time it would be fun to collect the certificates over time.
Let me know what you guys think, oh and for some reason I couldn’t get the images in properly so just click on the links.

Thanks for making these. I

Thanks for making these. I think your artwork looks great, and you should not dismiss your image-editing skills.
Just a note, you may or may not know that images produced by the US government are automatically public domains. Also, Bing's image search engine has an option to search for public domain as well as creative common images. That may help in finding free images to use for the certificate. E@H mostly deals with neutron stars and pulsars, so any (free) artwork that involves those astrophysics phenomenon would be nice.
From a technical perspective: I will make a note of your designs and look into seeing how we can use them. The certificate is just an HTML page, with HTML tables. So the background image does not need to have any text. The image size we need is 900x650 pixels. You may want to size it slightly smaller because the certificate has a gray border. The idea being if you give me the image, I believe I can set the certificate's background to the image we come up with.
Edit: You should also know that we will probably add the E@H logo, what you see in the upper-left of the home page, to the certificate along with any background image. Because the text is white, the background image should be darker to provide contrast.

Thanks for your kind words,
)
Thanks for your kind words, that’s real motivating.
Great for pointing that out, current images came from Wikipedia and I made sure to check thoroughly no copyright was mentions that would apply.
Technical wise it seems very straight forward. I will incorporate the Einstein logo or placeholder so its visible and blends well in the total art. (you could send the logo in HQ to me so I can incorporate it, other wise I will use a low resolution from site and you can rework a better version in it after).
I will ‘refine’ the existing once a bit, and will come up with some more alternatives and options (towards pulsars and neutron stars.
I will create these at the specified dimensions, and if you or others have given there preferences about the most liked I can send them to you in high quality without txt as a template for the certificate.
In the examples I will keep the text just for the sake of having a better idea how the final thing would look like.
Of course anyone is free to add or provide ideas, opinions and other things.
This one has the micro
)
This one has the micro background radiation als sort of background mixed with some texture to make the certificate seem more paper like, don't know if I like it or not but just as idea though I would post it.

next I will do a pulsar related one
Just my two-cents: I think
)
Just my two-cents: I think the colors may be too 'bright'. I will probably have to make the all the text: "Certificate of Completion", "has participated in Einstein@Home since...", a 'white color'. And then the logo which also has white text. So the background image will need to be 'dark'.
Here is an example of what I have been writing about. The text is white- although it could be a light gray or even a light blue. I chose a random background image that is gray. In this example, it is not dark enough because the white text is too light. And you can see the logo is in the lower-right.

PS - Let me know if you can't see the above image. But it should be publicly accessible.

I can see it, now I fully
)
I can see it, now I fully understand. I thought I just needed to create a dark corner for the logo to be placed but you're idea is to have all the letters white?
That's no problem, this was the last idea I was already in the making before previous posts.
Only I am also fully in a house moving thing, so it will take a bit of time but I will make a couple with darker background, already have a very cool concept for a pulsar in mind.
