The way we got to these numbers is some of us started early. Some put dozens of machines on their account, etc. Some used optimized clients, . . .
Right, there are a number of things that can help you gain credit faster. Besides those mentioned above, having a faster computer and/or allowing your computer to work more of the time (e.g., run always instead of only when idle) should help you return work sooner and thus get more credit. Don't worry about being behind others. I am, too, and we always will be behind some people. Likewise, we'll always be ahead of some people, too. Just keep doing the work and enjoy contributing to science. :)
I rejoined these projects after a long break, so my credit is still low. However, I have passed 5k credits here on Einstein and on SETI, with a total BOINC credit of over 10k (more like 12k with the other projects). Not much compared to some of you, I know, but far better than my old machine, which is why I stopped (it couldn't handle the work), so I'm good for now. :)
Well I finally hit that 200k mark last night and have a couple thousand credits waiting.
The new S5's take a while but they do add up the numbers (and I hope are helping the project since that is the whole point of things)
One of these days I will have to fire up a new dual processor machine.
But that will have to be after I get rid of this dialup and get the satellite isp installed (already had a wireless router sent to me from Tigerdirect the other day)
