Hi Jason, welcome to

Hi Jason, welcome to EinsteinatHome.

The account you have used to login and post your message shows as having no computers attached to it.  I suspect that you may have inadvertently created two accounts and that the account you are now logged into is not the one to which your computer is linked.

To check this out, please open BOINC Manager on your computer and look at the startup messages in the event log (Advanced view -> tools -> event log) where the numerical computer ID will be listed with a whole bunch of startup messages.  If you can't scroll  back far enough to see the startup messages, just stop and restart BOINC to get a fresh set of messages.

If you can post the computer ID, we can use that hopefully to find the account to which it is linked.

Cheers,
Gary.

Well, just the Einstein host ID.  You never mentioned a boatload of other projects :-).

Here is a link to that ID.  To me, the owner shows as 'anonymous' because whoever the owner is, the preferences are set to not show computers under that account.  If you click that link and the owner also shows as anonymous to you, then you (the account you are currently logged in to Einstein under) are not the owner either.  I'm guessing you may have created multiple accounts.

To 'see' all the details about that host, you need to log out of the account you are currently posting under and log in using the account credentials you were using when you first attached that computer to the Einstein project.

The other thing you could try is to go to your account at one of your other projects and see if the Einstein project is listed there as one of the projects you contribute to.  Try all your different projects if necessary until you find if any have a link to Einstein.  I don't know but perhaps you can find your 'real' Einstein account that way.

To take this much further, you will need to supply a lot more information.  How did you create your account here?  How did you install BOINC?  Do you use an account manager?  What installation options did you choose? etc etc.  I don't use Windows at all and have zero knowledge of the installation procedures these days so I can't really help with any of that.  There will be lots of others who can if you supply the details.

Cheers,
Gary.

Hi Jason, Have you managed to

Hi Jason,
Have you managed to find what the problem is?

In thinking more about the fact that you have a whole bunch of projects, I'm beginning to wonder if you are using the 'Science United' account manager and it has chosen all these projects for you.  If that's the case, please realise that you are not supposed to see any credit information.  If you really are interested in seeing how your computer is performing through the credit that is generated, Science United may not be the best approach.

I know very little about it but I've seen a few comments that made me wonder.  I decided to read this introduction.  Here are a couple of snips (direct quotes, some with my comments in brackets) that I find a little concerning for anyone who wants to know exactly what they are contributing to and that their machine is being used in the way you would like it to be used and that you, the owner, are ultimately in control of what is going on.

Quote:

  • Consider detaching from the projects you were previously running.
  • SU picks the projects for you.
  • SU is designed for people who are not technical (which really means "we know best - don't you dare touch")
  • the choice of projects and the allocation policy will be made by an independent committee.
  • projects to run, based on your preferences and other factors. (hmm - perhaps who pays the most??)
  • You don't have to browse and evaluate projects (which really means "we know best - no independent thinking needed")
  • the download happens directly, rather than going through the BOINC web site (do you really know what you're getting?)
  • There are no leader boards. Credit isn't shown anywhere. (there goes a lot of the interest and 'fun' from contributing).
  • no comparisons with other users.

There's a lot more - read it all for yourself.  If you have any interest in following your computer's performance and seeing the credit accumulate faster when you adjust a few things, then SU probably isn't the best option.  My greatest concern is that the gate seems to be left open to monetizing your volunteered resources to the benefit of who is willing to pay the most rather than what project you feel is best deserving of your support.

Maybe I'm just a paranoid old git, out of touch with modern reality :-).

Cheers,
Gary.
