When did you set the preference to not receive the GW tasks?
Did you check that you made the preference change for the 'location' that your host is assigned to? In other words, just confirm you don't have multiple locations (previously called 'venues') set up in your preferences. This wouldn't be the cause if you aren't using locations other than the 'default' one.
Are the tasks you have received really brand new tasks or are they 'resends' of 'lost tasks'? You can check this by looking at how they were described in the event log at the time your host downloaded them.
From my experience, if I disable a particular search in the 'project' preferences, that setting is always respected. All I would suggest is that you go through all your preference settings carefully to see if perhaps there is something set incorrectly.
