Topic 215884

I've been running E@H, then took on sharing Milkyway@Home tasks for two hosts.  Now all my hosts default to using web prefs from M@H (or local prefs if I choose).  How do I get BOINC Manager to go back to using E@H Project web prefs instead of M@H Project web prefs?  I deleted the separate M@H "home" project prefs set, but my "home" host still gives M@H web prefs as the only option.

Ideas are not fixed, nor should they be; we live in model-dependent reality.

Okay, I found in my

Okay, I found in my global_pref.xml file that Milkyway@Home is listed at the source project.

<source_project>http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/</source_project>
<source_scheduler>http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_cgi/cgi</source_scheduler>

Can I edit that file to make E@H the source project, or is the source project set somewhere else?

Hmmm, I see in the preview that the URL is linked in the post; I don't know how to post it as plain text

Just go to your E@H

Just go to your E@H preferences page, change one item, Save and change it back.  Then Update the Manager for E@H and your global preferences will be set from E@H for all projects.

That is controlled by which project you used to most recently edit preferences.  As Keith mentions, just make a trivial edit at the project you want to be the 'source project' and save the change.  Try to remember to make further edits at that project in future.  You can get more details here.  Here is the relevant bit.  The highlighting is mine.  You have to read carefully :-).

If a computer is attached to several projects, the most recently edited preferences are used. Changes at one project eventually propagate to accounts on other projects that have the same email address. To avoid confusion, edit your preferences at just one project.

I've copied what you posted above, pasted it and just removed the 'http:' at the front.

<source_project>//milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/</source_project>
<source_scheduler>//milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_cgi/cgi</source_scheduler>

As you can see, that's enough to stop a link being created if you just want to give the sense of the full URL you were seeing in the global preferences file.

Cheers,
Gary.

Thank you Keith & Gary. Yes

Thank you Keith & Gary. Yes that worked. Makes sense. One of these times I'm going to read the BOINC Preference page and something will actually sink in.  Is there perhaps a E@H Dunce's Corner discussion page where I should be posting?Laughing

Thanks also for the tip about dropping the http: tag.

Yep, you're right in the middle of it, along with the rest of us :-).

You'll need to clock up a few more miles if you want to be a really good dunce, though! :-).

Cheers,
Gary.
