Hi Einstein Scientists

Please take time to update information about progress of the project. It is important for a lot if not most of us lowly crunchers to receive project progress updates, problems, successes, whats next etc.

This is for me an important part of participating and makes me feel a part of whats going on, it's not sufficient to only give us credits and keep us in the dark.

Don't worry that we wont be able to understand, it makes interesting reading and Einstein like most Boinc projects don't pay enough attention to this detail.

Thank You In Advance.

PS. I am going to post this on all Boinc boards as all Boinc projects are guilty of this.

Project Update

I couldn't agree more. I believe there was a progress report at the end of May given to some oversight group......it is now Sept. Why the delays? Bad news? Some communication would be great.

Rather then just asking for a

Rather then just asking for a project update, it might be helpful to clarify what type of information you would like to see in an update? Einstein@home, like most other scientific projects, will probably not seen any substantial results for quite some time, unless they just get lucky. Even if they do find something significant or just interesting, they will not be able to announce it immediatly. The findings usually are required to be reviewed and verified by other sources, before any public announcement can be made. Even once published in scientific journals, they may be subject to peer review which can take months or years. You may want to take some time to review the section under more information. Lots of interesting and relevant information there, even though some of it is "over my head".

That being said, my suggestions for a possible improvement would be an update to the front page to include 1.) The introductory paragraph that is getting a little long in the tooth. 2.) Make the information links a little more obvious. 3.) A front page "real time" data summary (small info block) showing results completed, and number of interesting results worthy of review.

It is important to keep in mind that scientific research seldom delivers "quick" results. Most scientists labor for years, in the slim hope of making a significant discovery. Many, never obtain the fame of a "discovery" but their labors go into the knowledge pool that future scientists will build upon.

In the words of Thomas Edison:
" I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
"Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration."

To all, be patient. Good science cannot be rushed. It exists for the betterment of humankind, not for headlines.

Hi Shaktai

Wasn't asking for the impossible only an insight into the project, status, how BOINC is/isn't meeting their needs or any information that they are willing to share. A quarterly Newsletter would make me happy, maybe one from each project at staggered intervals so I always have some interesting reading, who knows? I may even learn something.

Any information would be great!! Ben Owen has given some very intresting communications in the Science Board and mentioned on the 6 August that some info would come 'any day now'. As I have stated on many occasions , E@H is a very well run project....'the gold standard' IMHO. They have been very busy through the summer (and probably short handed) but hope they can spare the time to give us peons a glimmer of how things are going. Orbit and PlanetQuest science projects are on the horizon and will probably compete for the same CPU processing pool as E@H. IMHO, it would be a shame to lose some of it just when E@H really gets going for for the lack of a little information.

I agree.

Even a quick update such as "analysis of S4 data is proceeding very well, we anticipate completion by approximately_____. At this time, we will issue the S5 data at the project design sensitivities, and analysis of this data should last approximately a year(?). We will also issue at the time of the S5 data release an upgrade of the client software with several new analysis features. This will update to all participants' computers automatically. We will provide a further Project update by the end of September."

This type of quick, 5 minute update would help a lot to know the researchers are still alive and active! ;)

Thank you.

Thanks Bruce, I am just about to start reading it now and will probably have too read it at least a dozen times. :) Much appreciated!
