Berkeley released new development version of BOINC core client v5.1.1. Does Einstein scheduller work with the new client since major version has changed?

I'd like to test the new version, but I have to be sure that it's compatible with Einstein.

BOINC client version 5

The version checking has been losenend a bit for the 4->5 transition, so it should work. A short test I just ran also revealed no problems.

Bernd – Could you inform us of any advantages “version 5.1.1” may have over our existing version of Windows 4.45?

As far as I know, one of the biggest new features of Boinc 5.x is the simplified account management. I believe they're trying to move to email/password instead of long hex string.

Quite an important advantage should be brushed-up scheduller code. It has been introduced in 4.4x, but was quite buggy. In 4.72 (the last development version before 5.1.1) it was quite better, but some bits still had to be pollished. I hope they are now and that's why I was about to test it.

What I found out was that I could no longer use BoincView to monitor and control it ... I'll wait for things to settle.

V5.1.1 was just released to alpha, and can therefore have many hidden bugs...

... but as already mentioned, the major change is to account-setup, but also to use another network-code so should hopefully work better with proxies and so on.

There's also some bug-fixes since v4.72 that hopefully works, as already mentioned to cpu/work-request-scheduler, to "Result duration correction factor" so expected cpu-time should more closely follow real cpu-time, bug-fix to disk-usage-bug introduced in v4.71, and bug-fix to a download-bug introduced in v4.45 that errored-out any download in progress that was paused for any reason...

There's atleast one bug in v5.1.1, there "no new work" doesn't work any longer.

Also, some projects haven't upgraded their server-software, so you can't get more work from these projects.

v5.0.x is expected released by end of September, if not too many bugs pops up...

So, use v5.1.1 at your own risk, and don't complain if your mouse starts eating the computer...

Mahray, Metod, S56RKO, Ed & Harriet Griffith, Ingleside – Guys thanks for both your quick and informative responses to my earlier posting. Reading through the newly incorporated revisions and enhancements, the BOINC Team, really seems to have made the client more user friendly and all around more professionally presented.

Personally, I’ll wait a week or so, before downloading, since I’m a firm believer in the old adage of “if it works, don’t fix it” and I have had a month and a half (since I joined) of trouble free running with 4.45 and also going along with Ingleside’s much appreciated warning and advice.

Again, thanks for your time and efforts in responding to my inquiry for the type of information you have graciously provided.
