All quite true. I just hope that the HBM2 helps AMD achieve their design objectives. They seem to have been counting on it last time, but it didn't appear in time for the RX400 series.
I've been disappointed with the last couple of AMD
GPU releases. Too much hype - not enough performance.
I hope this one is good !
The zen cpu's are looking like they will actually live up to the Hype and more
Bill.
I got a 480 recently and it's one unit at a time here and doing good:
My 7970 is doing one unit at a time and taking about 862.83 seconds per workunit, while my 480 is doing them in about 686.42 seconds. I tried running more than one at a time on the 480 but it took over an hour for each workunit to run 3 at a time so I gave up and am back to one at a time.
Ditto the remarks about the source. Marketing departments goal is to make their products look better than they are. Always wait for independent reviews.
Due to some of the double precision needed for E@H now, some of the performance will be dictated by SP/DP ratio. A 2x 480 statement could be true and SP but may be worse off for SP. Good to see AMD getting closer to their Intel/NV competitors through. Just gotta wait and see.

I experienced the same thing with my RX 470 and Windows. Simultaneously running three tasks caused them to slow to a crawl, but two simultaneous tasks finish in 1200-1400 seconds. IIRC single tasks finished in 800-900 seconds.
