This is my first Einstein work unit on my Athlon 64 2800+ running Linux. As I write this, I am the first to return it. I claimed 176.36, was granted 73.35. I thought credit was calculated based on the other results?

Sorry for asking if this has been explained elsewhere.

Pam,

Welcome to E@H!

On your "Results for Computer" page, you need to click on the "Work Unit ID" column. For your WU 1708814, this shows it was indeed verified by other machines.

Hope this helps?

Thanks, Ken,

Oh, sure, it shows it now. But, honest, it didn't look like that when I posted a few minutes ago. You believe me, don't you? ;)

The canonical result was returned Aug 5, so nothing funny is going on, except for when I first looked at it, I guess.

Pam

Hi Pam,

Actually, you were the last of the four to report in. Have a look at the work unit as Ken suggested and you will see that the other three all reported in earlier than your client did. The first three would have been used to determine the credit and when yours was validated, you were simply given the same as the other three.

Bearing in mind the quality of your machine, you should be able to get faster crunch times than what was shown for your first linux unit. Have a look at the optimised linux thread posted in the Cafe. People are reporting quite a deal faster crunch times with the optimised science app.

Edit: Sorry, your 2nd post appeared after I started mine so I hadn't seen it.

Cheers,
Gary.

Pam, We believe you. Many

Pam,

We believe you. Many of your questions are answered in the "Wiki", which is just a way of saying LOTS OF READING ... :)

Seriously, there is material in topics like "Credit", Quorum of Results, Validation, Validation Process, etc.

If you look in Credit, you will see that there are rules, and a process ...

Wander about ... lots to learn ... if we don't have an answer there ... well, either send me a note or post in this forum on any of the active projects and I, or one of the other "Santa's Helpers" will be happy to answer it. Though, I will usually point you back to the correct place in the Wiki as the summaries we post here are always lacking something ...

Thanks, Paul and everybody. I was convinced that the process had been circumvented somehow because I momentarily had a situation that looked odd. Usually when I look at a result, the other results are there too, showing their credits properly.

Usually BOINC is "set it and forget it" for me, but I was watching this one closely to see how it did. I was pretty surprised at how long it took. I have switched to the experimental app and I think it's made an improvement since another work unit has been downloaded so the current one must be about done.

I hadn't bothered to run Einstein with Linux since it didn't seem to do that well unless Wine was used and I am doing other projects with the regular linux command line client.

Something else funny I have noticed about Einstein- I seem to share a lot of work units with the same guys this last weekend. And I don't just mean "Anonymous". :)

Well, you know what they say about bees and the honeypot .... :).

Seriously, this is just one of the features of EAH. Since there are a group of you who have all downloaded the same large data file and since each new work unit is simply "slicing up" that large data file, it stands to reason that you are likely to see the same quorum members for a number of consecutive results until one or more of you move on to a new data file and so the relationship ends.

Cheers,
Gary.
