N30DG - noticed you had

N30DG - noticed you had several errors on your Pi in the last few days - any ideas what's going on?  I still haven't had a chance to play with this.

As you may noticed PorkyPies

As you may noticed PorkyPies had some Problems with the optimized App, on some of his boards. I'm trying to simulate the Problem on my PI. I've tryed to make it "unstable" to get the Problem. I've undervolted the Processor/RAM, used a very cheap chinese PSU, tryed some different OS-setups, SD-cards,...

So these errors was produced purposefully, but no luck with this. I don't getting the same errors like he get. I'm back to "normal"-mode since now. Running the inplace-Version for a few days and than switching back to out-of-place.

At the moment it seem's that some Boards can run the optimized App just fine and others don't. I really don't know why. As you can see, more testers are pretty welcome Wink.

I need to get on this before you guys catch up with me!

Any word on whether or not these changes will make it back in to the official packages?

Everyone, I am having a bit

Everyone, I am having a bit of heartburn with these new apps.  Some users are having success others are not.  I have 5 Pi 3s running the IP app and two machines run clean with the same OS while 2 other machines with the same OS are having mixed results/failures.  It is my belief that until the problem(s) I and others are having are fixed/understood that we should not be making these apps available as a download to the general population.  We do not want  E@H's reputation to become tarnished.

I understand your concern but I do not think there are all that many people running RPi's, since people are posting their issues they can see there are still some problems for some people and it is not all that hard to remove and go back to official app.

Would not hurt to add a warning if the original posting can still be edited.

Some exciting news concerning

Some exciting news concerning Raspian and it's new desktop PIXEL. Many changes, new apps, font rendering, new web browser and many more. You can now turn off WiFi and Bluetooth.

I just looked into adding a

HEADS UP!!!

I just looked into adding a GPS HAT to a raspberry pi 3 and was told by the HAT vendor that there is a problem with using serial devices on the Pi3.  Its not a problem with a Pi2 or PiZero.  Just the Pi3.  Here is a very brief explanation of the problem:

With the release of the Raspberry Pi 3 the original hardware UART from the Broadcom processor has been reassigned to the Bluetooth chipset and the UART output on the GPIO pins now uses a mini-uart port. The mini-uart doesn't have a separate clock divisor and uses the core clock frequency.

In theory this shouldn’t make any difference to using the port but when the new Raspberry Pi 3 arrived we found that the boot console and serial port communications no longer worked at the baud rate specified and seemed to run approximate 1.6 times slower so a 115,200 baud rate was actually running at 72000 baud rate.

The baud rate also fluctuated according to the processor load and speed which made it unusable for any external serial devices.

This is with one particular release of the Pi3.  From the vendor I queried they say their HAT is NOT compatible with current Pi3 revisions.  It seems to me a least that the Pi3 has some issues.
