Let's see how quoting the "Rich text" first post works using "Rich text":

Just to get another example

Just to get another example in here to check that the system can display something besides Mike's picture using the simple img tag method:

I deliberately chose a small picture fragment not to waste transmission.  This image was part of debugging a lens problem.

And yes, as seen here, the img tag method applied to a url to my photobucket account works for me now.

FWIW : Of interest may be

FWIW : Of interest may be what happens if :

- you have already formed and posted a comment with an image by some method.

- but decide later to edit that image eg. resize, but written/refreshed to the same web address that is referenced.

- the BBCode "img" tag will pick up the edit change.

- but the Insert/Edit Image approach doesn't.

That suggests Drupal is caching a copy with the Insert/Edit Image method by the time that dialog is finalised, but retrieving 'on the fly' with BBCode when ( presumably ) the PHP is processed on page fetch.

If that's the case then will the E@H Drupal DB, with time, acquire a potentially huge cached image load of those presented via Insert/Edit Image. Yes ? No ?

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

There is a difference when

There is a difference when using the bbcode img tag and the drupal one. The first will just display the image linked to in it's original size. The drupal img get's kind of fetched when you enter the URL (to your computer not the server). It then determines the dimensions and enters them in the appearance tab of the Edit/Insert image dialog. In order to resize the image you need to change the value there and do not need to resize the original image. The same can be achieved with the bbcode tags too (by specifying dimensions in the img tag). See the explanation in the BBcode help that is under the editor field.

Something else I just noticed and that will be put into a bug report is that I can't post bbcode tags as part of a <code> or <pre> segment. So I can't post an example here.

Thank you Christian. If it's

Thank you Christian. If it's only the size that is remembered then so much the better. I had visions of the DB being steadily overwhelmed. Anyway this also means that other image edits will stay 'live' either way.

FWIW : IIRC I don't think we have ever been able do any other BBCode inside <code> and <pre> ....

Cheers, Mike.
