I'm having trouble with the Einstein application. For some reason, it is refusing to close when the BOINC Manager has closed. The only way to get the application to close is to end the task, which is causing an error in the WU's and it is failing with "Client Error".

Pls help, as this is causing problems for me due to other applications not running properly while my CPU is being used so intensively by Einstein. Also, it has caused me to fail four work units ( = 8 hour RL processing time) in the past 24 hours.

BOINC Mgr Version: 4.45
CPU: Pentium 4 3.6 GHz (HT Enabled)
RAM: 2 Gb
OS: Windows XP SP2

Einstein does not close with BOINC Manager

BOINC and BOINCManager are seperate. the projects will not stop functioning just because the manager is shut down. a couple of things you can do is in the preferences set the preference "work only when computer is idle" that way when you are using the computer the projects will release control.

another option is to manually suspend the projects during times that you need control of the computer.

ideally, though, Einstein shouldn't affect your other applications. it should only take CPU cycles that aren't otherwise being used.

But if this were the case,

But if this were the case, why does SETI, Predictor, CPDN, Message@Home and SZTAKI close themselves when I right click on the BOINC icon in the system tray and select "Exit", but Einstein is the only one that doesn't?

When running Boinc as you have a HT CPU, check using task manager that you have only 2 applications running.

It can sometimes happen that more then 2 applications are running. In this case, the third application that runs will not be closed when closing Boinc. If I remember correctly I had this situation after having used the "suspend" on one of the WU's.
