Alright you get the Aussie view of the sky that is something I have only seen on a monitor!
After 3am the bright crescent Moon was starting to rise above the ridge east of me so for a few I blocked it with a magnolia tree!
I even saw one average meteor flash go by the left side of the Moon.
Also saw several satellites as they orbit the Earth....nice dark sky until the Moon got up too high.

Thanks Samson,
After seeing your post I went outside at about 9:00 UTC
and observed for about 10 minutes (all I could do as I was at work : )
During that time I saw ONE meteor !
Better than none )
Bill
Yeah this is a meteor shower that isn't known to have lots of them like the Perseids will have next month.
At 40mins after midnight here I also saw the International Space Station go west to east right above me and it was nice and bright since the Moon was not up yet.
I only saw one medium bright meteor in the southern sky.......they say the most will be in that area called the "square" where four bright stars make sort of a huge 4 corners of the square in the southern sky.
So when I was looking right at that section I saw this bright double flash that looked like a bright star flashing but after the double flash it was just black space again.
I have seen those before in that same area in other years watching these.
I saw a few long dim ones cross the sky in all different area since I also looked north since it is the darkest part of the sky all the time here.
I hope I have a nice clear sky and fairly warm on August 11th-12th since they say we may get 200 an hour from the Perseids.
Here is the link to show you what times you can see the ISS in your area.
Just looking at a book review for "Sapiens : A Brief History Of Humankind" which claims :
Quote:
Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old. In just a fraction of that time, one species among countless others has conquered it.
What ? I thought, a book about insects ? LOL ! Conquered ? Ask that question in 5000 years time! You could also mention bacteria, fungi, protozoa .... the reptiles are doing well ..... the rats just be a bustlin' .... I think Homo sapiens pretensions is a better title for humans. Perhaps someone could fund another species to write about us. I think we may be biased.
Here's another one "Anxiety Free : Unravel Your Fears Before They Unravel You" :
Quote:
In his new book, Robert L. Leahy, Ph.D., author of the best-selling book The Worry Cure, turns his attention to anxiety. Leahy looks at the origin of anxiety and teaches you how to outsmart your fears for a less stressful life.
I'd start by having the income, lifestyle and social position generated by being a successful author with a tertiary education in an affluent nation. That would be a far better head start on that issue*.
Conversely "The Happiness Trap : Stop Struggling, Start Living" :
Quote:
What if almost everything we believed about finding happiness turned out to be inaccurate, misleading, or false? And what if those very beliefs were making us miserable? What if our efforts to find happiness were actually preventing it? A growing body of scientific research suggests that we are all caught in a powerful psychological trap: a vicious cycle, whereby the more we strive for happiness, the more we suffer.
LOL ! "Happiness for Losers" then ? Lighten up. A growing body of scientific research suggests ... that valid, huh ? My golly gosh they are being rigorous. So a Nobel award next year then ? Anxious or happy, either way the pseudo-science-psychobabble publishing industry has got you covered ..... :-)
Sorry, I won't be covering "Sox Academy : Essential Lessons in Soxduction and Spectacular Sox" or "Fifty Shades of Vaguely Off-White" and I couldn't find "Addiction to Popular BS Advice Books : Stop Buying Them" ....
Cheers, Mike.

The problem is that there are gullible governments and NHS's that will happily pay 100 times the real cost of a drug from a dubious company that has a monopoly in that area. Also factor in a gullible public that prefer to pay for brand name drugs due to prime time TV advertising, when they can get generic products at 1/4 price with the same ingredients. Immodium is a prime example.
Then we have the case where we have just plain naughty children with dysfunctional parents that didn't bring them up properly. Don't worry, we'll invent a psychological condition, so you can class them as special needs and get them of your back.
I think that with the number of people "coming out" these days the term Homo Sapiens is about correct. It's almost getting to the stage where being straight will be classed as an ethnic minority.
Oh yes and these PhD's, Doctor of what? Oh Ph. Does that mean you can use litmus paper to a high standard? Oh goodie, can you send one round please, my fish look a bit peaky in their tank.
Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)
Why do doctors have to practice?
You'd think they'd have got it right by now
Good morning everyone!!! It's Saturday morning and I am winning and thinking about going back to bed!! This 3 or 4 hours of sleep isn't as easy as it used to be!!! Even with a few cups of coffee in me!!
