RE: Sadly an overseas

Quote:

Sadly an overseas visitor was taken by a salty croc last week up where I usually holiday. But then I do remember a conversation, on a lovely but isolated beach, I had with a European guy up there in about 2013 :

EuroChap - Excuse me sir. Could you tell me where I can find a crocodile ?

Me - You don't want to find a crocodile.

EuroChap - But I do want to find a crocodile.

Me - NO, I'm serious. You do not want to find a crocodile !

.... he looked at me strangely, swore I think in his own language, and walked off. To this day I'm not sure if he viewed me as helpful or unhelpful. So if you like danger in an insane kinda way .... crocodiles are just a funny looking log in a creek away.

Cheers, Mike.

Reminds me of a friend who went to Florida on vacation and saw an alligator sunning itself on the side of the road. He said it was 'only' about a 5 foot one so he stopped his car, jumped out and grabbed it by the tail as it tried to go back into the canal. He held it for some pictures and then said it went into the water and swam away. He thought it was all alot of 'fun', until we were watching tv one night and they showed alligators being able to whip around and almost bite their own tail in the blink of any eye! Then he realized how close he had come to being that alligators next meal!!!

Mike it sounds like your tourist was just as clueless about crocodiles!! Question for you Mike, if a shark bites you AND you are able to the experts say to poke him in the eye and he will let you go, apparently they don't much care for food that fights back. Does that work with crocodiles too, or are they shaking you, or drowning you, waaay too much for you to do anything but die?

They do the 'crocodile roll' which is to spin around their long axis with you in their mouth. This is almost universally fatal for you, the rare exceptions being a colleague of yours who blows it with a firearm or somesuch. These beasts have an almost unaltered design in over 200+ million years. So that's a good design then. They do the quick ambush so well.

So you do not want to meet a crocodile ..... despite all those stupid 'crocodile hunter' programs ( which are produced by idiots ).

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) BTW : forget shotguns and small bore. Heavy grain .303 rifle, magnums et al is what you want here. Bush professionals who want reasonable defense ( with no interest in usable pelts afterwards ) use dum-dum rounds for best effect. Basically you have to blow it guts out the other side quick slick.

If you don't want to get

If you don't want to get caught by a crocodile, run faster than the person next to you :)

Er, 1630.

I mentioned that he said I get the concept. Train dispatchers have fascinated me since I got my first scanner ~35 years ago, and I was listening to and understanding IRM's dispatchers for a couple of years before I became a volunteer.

You are ahead of the pack then.

I may have mentioned that I am currently certified to administer a person's last breath perform CPR. I found it hard to shut up and not interrupt because they never mentioned assessment of the cervical spine prior to important neck manoeuvres take in all of the presentation, especially the parts about being seriously & primarily concerned about the person's brain oxygenation culturally sensitive and seriously & primarily concerned about the person's brain oxygenation while delaying because of washing my hands thoroughly beforehand.

Cheers, Mike.

I recently re-upped my CPR certification after letting it lapse for a year. No, no mention was made of possible neck injuries. They emphasized the importance of removing all clothing from the chest before doing compressions or using an AED and don't worry about a female's modesty. Since I got this training at work, I (somewhat) trust that I will be protected from any ensuing claims or charges resulting from my actions if they happen in the school, but I remain concerned about doing so elsewhere, especially at the museum. They did not say anything about hand-washing.

Another note from Sunday evening: while we were all waiting at Seeman for 1630 to start moving, this happened by. '55 Chevy front '55 Chevy rear The people had no idea what was happening. I told them and mentioned that no one would mind if it was parked in the shot.

[edit]
TL, I once had the thread at both Setis at the same time.

Nah nah, far too sissy Mike!!

"Look matey, they are over there that way. Now while you go and look for them I'll be ringing the police, because you've obviously escaped from somewhere. And a quick question, shall I call the ambulance now, or when we find what's left of your body later on?"

Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)

Why do doctors have to practice?

Oh that's charming that is... thank you! :)

As the only head on the beach, and having to wait for David to finish parking his trains to become something more like my usual self, is no doubt why you now control the world TL... congratulations :)

*scowl at feet* I don't remember them being that colour... then they lodge you under a rock they call their larder. Crocodiles. The only thing I've ever seen intimidate them into something verging on respect, are hippo's.

So I respect them too :)

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Heh heh, that was the result of your weekly foot painting class. You remember, that arty/dafty/crafty lot down at the Adult Institute in the High Street.

Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)
