Detection statistic for gravitational wave signals

I recently came across this article and since the names of both authors appear in the publication announcing the discovery of gravitational waves I was wondering if the published method was actually used to detect the signal. The paper was published in Physical Review D in November 2015 (see here).
Do we use it here at einstein@home? What is your opinion on the suggested method?

The paper is about "Gravitational Wave Stochastic Background Signals". This is not the type of signals that Einstein@Home is looking for ("Continuous Gravitational Waves"), nor the type of signal that has been detected ("Compact Binary Coalescence"). There is a whole working group in the LSC that deals with stochastic background GWs, but I have to admit that I don't know much about their methods in detail.
