Hi Zalster! I am beginning

Hi Zalster!

I am beginning to rev up again for these projects. My rig was down so long I lost interest. Then I found out there was nothing wrong with it! In the mean time we now have Maxwell!

Yes, I will report what happens. Based on my past experience with my four GPU machine just about anything could happen. For instance, it is right now pulling 365 watts from the wall plug feeding a 400 watt platinum power supply that runs four GPUs producing about 120,000 stones per day.

I think......

If my house goes up in a mushroom cloud perhaps it will make the news!

Zalster I am now running

Zalster

I am now running Parkes beta exclusively and all four ganged GPUs are running fine and have yet to deliver a single error work unit. Too early for hard speed-data but looks like at least 15% increased production.

Good to hear that David. Yes, it is definitely faster than the previous version.

Very bad news! I swapped out

Very bad news! I swapped out the gtx 660 and installed the gtx 750ti and when powered back up crashed the entire system. Had nvidia scan the rig and install new drivers. No good. Reinstalled the 660 and still no good. so many error work units they wont send me any more. I have another 750 ti coming next week and usually I can get two of the four slots to link up.

Real bummer though. The 660 + two 550s with beta units were really producing. At least 140,000 stones and had plenty pending. Tried Milky way this evening and only would run the new 750 ti three 650s just sat therer. Wrote nvidia a critical letter.

I had that on one machine

I had that on one machine (old Q9300, running Windows XP) when I upgraded from a 9800GT to a 750 Ti. I'd already upgraded two similar machines, so it took me by surprise.

It seemed as if the Windows installation had become deeply corrupted. In the end, I read a reference to incompatibilities with motherboard chipset drivers - which I certainly hadn't updated for a long time. So, to cut my losses, I put a new Windows installation onto a clean hard disk, and updated everything - including the motherboard drivers - before re-installing the 750 Ti: that worked, and the machine is still running fine, with the corrupted system disk re-purposed as a D: data drive.

Hi Richard When I get a

Hi Richard

When I get a chance I will see if my four gpu machine has a set back date. If so I just might reinstall the old gpu cards. They were doing very well indeed. If that works I have a separate two card machine without cards and will use it for the new gtx 750ti unit cards, both are paid for but one has not arrived.

The four unit machine was my special project two years ago and I was very satisfied I go it to run four cards even when the builder could not. IMHO invidious NVIDIA destroyed my special rig with their new card! They know these cards are used as math co processors but seem oblivious to these weird incompatibilities.

The Latest I re installed

The Latest

I re installed my two-year old drivers from the original assus nvidia disks and it worked. My machine now recognizes all four cards 3 x gtx650 + 1 gtx 660. However, as I have sometimes noticed I got occasional instability. Did not generate errors but simply stoped. So I removed on gtx650 as befpre amd will wait.

There are other oddities. The only tasks being sent are from milkyway which I used as test work units after Einstein stop sending me units. Even under the project category Einstein! I will let milkyway run to see how much production is actually produced.

Also, I am not seeing core capacity rates in the 90% range. Power draw for the entire three card machine is 200 watts and thats pretty good, depending on actual stones produced. There are many many short tasks!

I suspect both BOINC and

I suspect both BOINC and NVIDIA consider out personal machines perhaps more trouble then we are worth. Why? I considered myself an exemplary neophyte, having spent more then $1,000 on my special build rig. It contributed tens of millions of stones at low power which was its objective. Recently it was returning about 140,000 stones per day at about 350 watts. Then several things happened.

First, I swapped out a GTX 660 and installed a GTX 750. The entire rig collapsed.

Second, in my attempts to re-engineer the chaos the rig created hundreds of error work units.

Third, this seems to have resulted in my machine being denied Einstein work units. Certainly understandable. Sort of.

Fourth, with much effort I managed to return the rig to its previous operable condition.

Fifth, I tested the rig on MilkyWay with success.

Sixth, I petitioned Einstein@home for permission to receive work units with no success.

This stinks of some sort Post Doc (if even that) having been relegated to gin-up ways to use nerds on the net for specious grant money and little else. Otherwise we would have one simple thing. Specifically, dummy units to use to test our rigs.

It is apparently not even worth that effort, or the effort to simply to reject the eror units and permit a reset. I think the jig is up guys.

The phylosophy stone is now

The phylosophy stone is now broken :)
Nothing makes sense in this world, no global aims, just local ones.
Building multi-gpu rig is your own aim, finetuning it is a hobby.
Even scientific work for grants and credits is just a local aim of those of us who fond of this.
BTW, your thread is scientific work too. And I'm glad you wrote down everything you just made to your rig, so it makes sense to us, your subscribers.

It's an automated system that as you have discovered will reduce the number tasks a "faulty" machine can download per day. If enough errors are reported then the quota will be reduced to 1 task/24h, the only way to get it back is to start returning valid work. For every successful task returned the quota will double.
So if your machine is running good again then it's quota will start to rise, just give it some time.
