Some great links. I notice that there is a migratory path down the east coast to and through Florida. I will be watching for them and hopefully they will stop for a rest and a meal. I have 3 large Pentas that they seem attracted to. Earlier in the summer I allowed a head of lettuce to bolt, flower and seed. The small yellow flowers on the lettuce were major attractors of a white type of butterfly. I might need to reset the table.
Magic,
Really great videos. I had had seen a show about the Monarchs on PBS several years ago and was bowled over. Hopefully the Monarchs on their migration south will be escorted by some Hummers. I had put out some feeders earlier but in a month never saw a single hummer so I retired them. I live on the east coast of Florida and I don't believe I have ever seen one in the 30+ years that I have been here. But you never know.
I had a butterfly in a train car the other day, but I don't know if it was a monarch. I opened a window and let it out.
Speaking of the train, I had a great day at the museum on Sunday. I almost felt like I knew what I was doing. Much more confident than the first time I was conductor. Didn't have any trainmen, but really didn't need any, with fairly small crowds that mostly stayed in one car. Braking is much easier from the rear when there's a diesel instead of a steam engine on the front. I made three good (if just a tad hard) stops in almost the same place every time. The weather was great for it too, cool enough that I didn't get exhausted even at the end of the day.
I even took a ride on MILW 760 (the first locomotive built by Fairbanks Morse), which was switching cars around all afternoon to prepare for the convention this week and Showcase Weekend.
For Showcase, I have asked if I can conduct the CNW bilevels Saturday night. Haven't heard back yet.

Even way up north where I am I have close to 20 that are here all year (Anna hummingbirds) so I have food all winter for them and when it gets cold I make sure they don't freeze.
Once you get some they come back until you stop feeding them so it has been since 1985 here and hundreds of pound of sugar.
Of course they have to like the mix you give them or they will move on to your neighbors.
I have lots of plants here for the butterflies but never get many of the bigger ones and lots of smaller ones and probably because they get killed by birds or weed killer before they get here.
This is on one of my many *butterfly bushes* I planted all over the place (5 different colors)

*stare uncomprehendingly into near space* whatever that means - I hope you can, David :)

Forgot to say this in my last post:

I am a bit hesitant to admit this, but I see a "happy fish" in the snow inscribed by the random tire tracks. Or were they random? Did I pass the Rorschach Test?
Yes do. Hesitate I mean.
Why? Because I see it too :)

Well, Annie hit the magic number of 200. Annie is the WINNER!!!!! :-)
Mike Hewson hit the first trigger, (loosely), by providing the Wikipedia Link to Lalla Ward's husband wherein it mentions him marrying her.
I was actually hoping someone would hit the full first trigger by posting a picture of Romana II. (Hence me leaving the question in the Thread Title, "Where's Romana.")
The second trigger was hitting Post 200 - which Annie has done. :-)
So, I will now send Annie a PM. [God help us all, Annie is controlling the next LPTPHW Thread!!!!! ;-) ]

The Monarch butterflies have
The Monarch butterflies have begun their 3K mile flight south to Mexico from Canada. Some of the pictures are quite amazing.
RE: The Monarch butterflies
Not sure where to find the best ones, but have started here
...and here...
Wow :)
These are the monarchs I grew up with :) I don't recall noticing any mass migratory behaviour though.
edit: doesn't mean it didn't happen, I may have been preoccupied with taming flying ants and befriending shongololos 'n stuff at the time...

Yes I have seen that PBS version too.
Here is some info on the H-birds where you live http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1280306/#b

Interesting link. This guy lives south of my location by about 40 minutes. I remain hopeful.
