If somebody finds a gravy wave, everyone who has contributed to this project (machine time, programming, running LIGO, grant applications, useful forum posts, etc) will receive a *warm* *fuzzy* *feeling* of being part of something that has pushed back the frontiers of science.

In my opinion, if X's machine finds a gravy wave, then my machine, and Z's machine, and all the other machines are just as much part of the effort -- all that data had to be crunched to get to the lucky one. Each participant is as much a contributor to the success as any other.

Even more so, if the result is that there are no gravy waves, that too is an important scientific result, and equally one that comes from all of us, not just from one wu.

this sounds very noble man a like or like a gentlemann but lets be honest here:

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL. the oliymics is the same: this "yeah being there is watt counts.." or "we r all winer..give me a hug and kissi on my cheeEek". no thank you mr. samamamamranch.

isnt it? ok many many people and their computer did the calculating for finding the waves but still somehow THIS ONE GUY or GIRL has found them (or not). why he or she and not why not somebody else? so there must be a special reason that this specifick person found the waves!

THIS shoud be rewarded with money, awards, 500.000 united airlines or KLM mileage bonus points or something like that (i personally prefere the doctrorate degree).

i mean this person can say "thanks to all OFFF you for helping me in finding the waves". but still he or she will be "THE" person who will be the reprenstantive for this project and will go down in pyhsiological history.

anyways, as a manangment & CEO teacher/trainer for the majority of the 500 biggest fortune companies i tell the CEOs and manangers:

"GUYS...gimme the results. nothin else!"

But you don't choose your WU and crunching it requires no skill on your part. If anyone should be getting awards, it's the folks who run this whole contraption they all Einstein@Home.

sure the many credit goes to the develeoper of einstein at home. much respect for that but:

i had to //:installl the software on my iibbookk which was helll OFFF difficult. and then i need to check the process almost every hour just in case my ibbookk brake down due to the H.E.A.T. i need to wrapp it in a coool water towel and make the cüeeteé ibbookk cool again. and the most time consuming part:

i need to recacluate the crunched results with my TEXXXAS INSTRUMENT T68 grapfik calculator in order to get sure that the iiboookk didnt do any miscalcuation.

As you can visuallly see there is a heck offf a lot to do for einstein at home members (at least for my personalyity) so i hope that this sweatty work will be rewarded in the future when we will find those wavves!

absolutely so,

and you fully deserve exactly the same credit whether *your* iibbookk finds the gravy waves or if *my* slow Pentium700 finds them. You have done exactly the same work in both cases. That is why I think we agree beforehand that we all share the joy and the credit in the event that something is found.

After all, if *I* find them, you surely want some credit for all that effort?

You can do better than a TI: I suggest you find an old HP calculator with reverse polish arithmetic, which takes some skill to learn and will suit your distinctive personality even better ;-)

Humph! I thought it was 100 ;-)

From Einstein@Home

From Einstein@Home FAQ

What will happen when a gravitational wave was found by my computer?

This question is under discussion between the LIGO and GEO labs, and the LIGO Scientific Collaboration. It has not yet been answered. Here are a few facts that are relevant. (1) Einstein@Home participants are carrying out one step (the most computationally-intensive one) in a pulsar search. However the results are fed back into a later stage of search which looks for consistency between different independent results. So no single user 'makes the discovery'. (2) Since (for the purpose of validation) the work is done by several machines independently, belonging to different users, any credit should be shared between the different users who got that result.

We expect to update this answer in the future.

Ok, I didn´t say, that we share the 10 extra credits between the different users. ;-).
