A number of years ago, my then boss and I were offered a satellite dish by the local cable company. As their office is just across the street from our athletic practice fields, we walked over to look at it. It was much bigger than were were expecting, standing on a concrete pad; we didn't even go in to talk to them about it. We just walked back over and forgot about it.

BTW, winning!

MOST dishes for homes now are the smaller 2 foot max diameter things, the companies have gotten better on their technology end so there's no need to use a huge dish anymore, in most cases.

I went on vacation once to a house with Dish, when the thunderstorms came thru and stayed for two days and the Dish stayed out due to no signal getting thru, I decided no Dish for me. It was not fun being cooped up with two kids and a wife with no tv in a vacation home with nothing around us.

It really depends on how well the dish is installed. The one I had in SoCal was almost bulletproof in its installation. We had hard rains, some wind, and no matter what, we had signal. One rainstorm, my ex-wife's grandmother called us to see if we had TV. Her Time Warner cable signal was out for hours. We told her that we were on Dish Network, and that we had perfect signal. :-)

I would have Dish, again, if no U-Verse was around. Plus, Dish Network is MUCH cheaper than DirecTV.

I always thought that if you lived out in the 'Boondocks' that
satellite internet would be the way to go but,
apparently you did not have very good luck with it ?

Bill

That Dish on the far right of the pic is one I tested for the ISP after having a dialup for years.

It cost too much each month and was slower than my current DSL.

The company would slow down your connection all the time if they thought you were using it too much and of course THAT is not going to work for Boinc crunchers so soon after we got the phone company to set up the DSL in the area and switched to that and it works ok but they have faster versions if you have money to hand over to them.

The good thing about the 10ft dish was always having it when it rained or snowed because the big dish doesn't lose the signal and those little ones do.

I used to just turn the big dish when it got too much snow on it and it would slide off.

Those little ones I have to go out and wipe the snow off since it doesn't take much to lose the signal and when it rains hard there is nothing you can do but wait.

Not many channels on the big dish anymore but I built that myself back in 1983 so I'm keeping it and check to see what it has every summer since the actuator quit working years ago and now has the old hand crank.

Mine is a commercial grade 10ft dish so it weighs hundreds of pounds and would be hard to even take down.

I have another 10 foot regular fiberglass dish and they are much lighter but I use that for something else.

(that little one is my newer HD Dish)

Yes, on Tuesdays; not Sundays... Sunday was a second Outrage.

We dropped from 80s over the weekend to 50s yesterday and today. Supposed to be back in the 60s tomorrow. Up toward 80 again by Sunday.

Time for some Tylenol.

Nice video. You certainly have a large family.

Summer here. From now until Sept/Oct ~ 90+. Lots of hydro tomatoes this year. No complaints.

I too am growing tomatoes too but not 'hydro', I grow mine in plastic tubs that look like half whiskey barrels on my deck. I have 12 plants out now with 3 more on 'back order', I only grow the 'cherry' ones though. I eat some right off the plant and chill the rest for snacking later on, when they get going good I have to pick every day. Mine are in cages and are already 40 inches tall and some have small flowers showing up. I also have a rain barrel on my deck that I use to water them with.
