Thank you Bernd, for that

Thank you Bernd, for that report! Very interesting, although I sure hope never to have to do such a thing in my life again - which being retired, is pretty sure BTW.
Also thanks to all others involved or even hidden behind the screens!

Much appreciated!

Well done! This comprehensive

Well done! This comprehensive report is that what I meant as "chronicles". This was very interesting to read and to understand the scale of the problem. Crossing our fingers to make this big migration complete without errors.
BTW, is there any possibility of new file system degradation in the future?

RE: Black ice at the Battle

Black ice at the Battle of Hastings ? Yup, I'd buy that. :-)

I had to spend about 10 minutes looking through the tapestry to find this fragment. Finally I did that :)
But. There was October, so there was no evidence of black ice.
Instead the most suitable words for this is from Lermontov's Borodino (though it was written 8 centuries later):

The foe that day had many ways
To feel what daring combat weighs,
Our Russian hand-to-hand!..
As did our chests – earth's hollows trembled;
The steeds, the men all disassembled,
And cannon volleys' sound resembled
A moaning o'er the land...

Dusk fell. We all were ready

Dusk fell. We all were ready to
Next morrow start the fight anew
And stand till none were left...
Of drums we heard far off the rattle:–
The pagans left the field of battle.
To count then we began the sad toll
Of wounds and comrades reft.

Well, it's still software, so never say never :-/ However, as you've read, we enabled the free inode btree for the current replacement server's XFS filesystem which should help a lot avoiding the previous main issue. We also fixed the monitoring of the filesystem such that it shouldn't get the chance to run out of space in the first place - something that tips most filesystems' performance.

As soon as we moved all data from the original server (still ongoing!) we'll reformat its data volume in the same way...

Best,
Oliver

Ok. We will patiently wait

Ok. We will patiently wait for the completion. And then will ask another questions, for e.g. about BRP WU size. But that is a different story.

Thanks to you and Oliver for

Thanks to you and Oliver for your hard work over recent weeks. You guys have been busier than an one armed paper hanger in a windstorm. Great effort guys. Thanks. Perhaps many of us out there in cyber land might have learnt a bit of patience - some people were a tad aggro. Not nice guys.

Lol at the paper hanger comment. My other version of that is "Busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest."

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
