I know you cited at least one

I know you cited at least one reason why you don't want to, but it seems to me one way to speed up the message boards would be to upgrade them to a version where users can select how many posts they see on a page. Then we wouldn't have to wait for hundreds of posts we've already seen to load all over again.

Is it worth thinking about, at least?

(Just make sure you don't get one of Dr. A.'s experimental versions he keeps putting up live on Seti and causing horrendous page and script errors!)

There is a similar setting

There is a similar setting available now in the community prefs:

"NN If a thread contains more than this number of posts"
and
"NN only display the first one and this many of the last ones"

It won't get you pagination but you should be able to cut down on the number of posts to load in a given thread.

Pagination will definitely be

Pagination will definitely be implemented next week, probably by backporting this feature into the old code.

The data volume through the VPN tunnel is the smaller problem, the larger one is the latency that occurs for every SQL query issued by the web code. E.g. the "Technical News" thread list page currently generates 77(!) queries. BOINC's habit of avoiding any type of information reduction / processing in the DB, but fetching everything from the DB and process in PHP, possibly causing subsequent queries, shows up here pretty badly.

We're thinking about some more options; currently the most promising being setting up a proxy @UWM which forwards the actual page building / PHP processing to some server @AEI.

Just wanted to say thank you

Just wanted to say thank you for all the effort you guys are going through to get this project running smoothly. I echo others thoughts in saying take your time to get it done right the first time when dealing with all the issues you are currently still having.

I just wanted to report today is the first time I've been able to access the main page (http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu) since the maintenance started. I'm looking forward to the fireworks here in > 8 hours when the teams start unloading! :D

I was wondering about that too. I'm going to ask in the Boinc forums about it.

Hallo! The notice in BOINC

Hallo!
The notice in BOINC manager will become automatically deleted after about 1/4 of a year. That´s parctice since establishing this page. The relavance of this notice you can see from the date of publication on the lower left side. So don´t worry about this. But I agree, the size of the character of the date etc. at the lower left is too small for my feeling.

Kind regards and happy crunching
Martin
