My einstein.phys.uwm.edu folder on my Mac computer is quite large, containing over 1500 einstein...i686-apple-darwin Unix Executable files of sizes 2 - 20 MB each. Can I safely delete all the older files?
My real problem is not really the stoarge space. I can tolerate this size if necessary. But I recently had to repair my boot drive, and since then I cannot get my two BOINC projects to work. (They were working fine for many years prior to this.) My 2 projects are Einstein and Seti. I keep getting notices that no disk space is available and they each need more (or something like that). I have changed my BOINC online preferences several times, to no avail. On my Mac computer I have run the BOINC uninstaller and then reinstalled, with no change. I have manually deleted all BOINC prefs from my computer's library, then run the uninstaller and reinstalled, still with no change. I have just changed my BOINC online preferences one last time, restoring the defaults. I will have to wait until BOINC Manager contacts Seti and Einstein to see if that helps.
Meanwhile I am hypothesizing that the large size of my Einstein folder may be the culprit for both my Seti and Einstein problems. That's why I asked that question first.

NO you cannot delete the old files! Einstein sends you one big file, and a bunch of smaller ones that then access the larger file that has all the data in it that it analyzes. Eventually you will get another big data file, and of course new small ones too, and the first one should be deleted. This doesn't always happen right away though, so your directory could get even bigger then it currently is.
Obviously if this is a problem then Einstein may not be the project for that pc, or you could possibly add more storage space. If you were to add a new hard drive you could even specify Boinc use it for everything Boinc, leaving your regular drive mostly free for other stuff. I a a Windows guy and find that a 160gb drive can handle both Windows and any Boinc projects I want to run without running out of space. If you choose this route check online for drives prices as they are always dropping.

As Mikey said the Gravitywave searches here at Einstein uses quite big data files that can be reused several times to make different analyzes of the same data. The files should be deleted when there are no more task that can use them. S6CasA is winding down (~1300 tasks left) and when there are no more tasks for that search the files should be deleted.
As to changes to the prefs not helping I suppose you use local prefs set in Boinc manager and those always overrides the online prefs. If you want to go back to using the online prefs then i Boinc manager's tools menu select "Computing prefs" and then click the "Clear" button, else change the prefs there.
If your not using local prefs then you've probably not changed the right disk setting, there are 3 and the most restrictive is used.

You allow 100GB to be used, but at most 10% of the total disk space and 1 GB should be left free. The disk is 78.66GB in size and 10% of that equals 7.866GB, Boinc uses 7.96GB so is out of disk space. To fix the problem change the "Disk: use at most 10% of total" to something higher. I have it at 95% but 50% should be more than enough.
Uninstalling Boinc only deletes Boinc's files not the data files from the projects you participate in and if you use a file manager to delete the files they will most probably be downloaded again the next time Boinc contacts the server so that's not the way to do it.
If you want to delete the files open Boinc manager and in the advanced view on the projects tab click on Einstein@home and then on your left click on "No new tasks", when all downloaded tasks have been finished open Boinc again and on the "Tasks" tab check that all Einstein tasks have been reported, ie there should be none there. Then go to the projects tab again and click on Einstein@home and this time choose to remove the project, this will delete all files belonging to the project. When done add the project back via the tools menu, make sure you select existing user so you don't end up with 2 accounts.
